And, as often happens at Classicstoday, the review doesn't appear in the sacd section. This reviewer seems to indicate that he's listened only to the redbook layer, but these ommissions occur with some regularity even when the reviewer is Mr. Hurwitz, who normally includes comment on sacd sound (for example, the Ondine and BIS recordings of Asrael, both rated 10/10 and neither accessible in the "sacd reviews" section of the site).

I got mine in the mail yesterday. What the Netherlands bach Society and CC have accomplished here is amazing. I listened to the whole thing-- Multi-channel. Wonderful! And the recording is completely involving. The forces involved, the multi-channel mix, everything! I do not typically respond to Bach Choral works. I can't imagine that I actually was glued to my chair for the entire oratorio. But I was. Highly recommended. Now I want the Handel from last year.

Yes... except it's not in french (only Flemish, English and German) !
Is it so expensive to add a french translation ? (French is the second spoken language in Europe... after German).

Your English seems good enough that it wouldn't be a problem!
Aside from the extra printing costs that French would require, getting a translation can be really expensive. The standard here, in Berlin, is €1 per 55character line (including spaces). Can't remember how long the articles in the booklet are, but I wouldn't be surprised if they'd end up being the wrong side of a grand.

OK with you but the three first releases in this beautiful edition (Mass in B minor, St-John passion & Christmas Oratorio) have been translated in French... so why not this one ? I'm disappointed.

I was disappointed to have to omit french but because the Matthews passion has so much more music it means that much more text than the other passions. We had to stay under 200 pages or else the whole production with booklet and box and weight for shipping was going to explode. French generally like to only buy french ensembles with the support of the french magazines. In the past these magazines were not always sympathetic to the ideas of Jos van Veldhoven so in the end the French seemed to be the logical emission from the booklet. I could have of course just raised the price to 3 cds for the price of 3, but I think you would really have thought twice before buying!

Russia has about 140 million people (small part of them are in Asia), and Russian is widely spoken also in Ukraine with 46 million people and Belarus with 6 million Russian speakers. France has only 65 million people. It seems to me that Russian is by far the biggest language in Europe. See the big picture...

OK Jared, I understand that would add lot of text and music. I said I was disappointed because it is a luxuous release, a treasure to keep for the life.
But when you say "French generally like to only buy french ensembles with the support of the french magazines", humm, I think you're wrong :-)), except perhaps for french music.
However, this St-Matthew passion is wonderful, and remarkably recorded (what a multichannel !).
