Marketing tip:
How about a pic of Ax and Tilson Thomas on the cover ... rather than a generic picture of a tree. You would think a pianist as eminent as Emanuel Ax would be a selling point.

P.S. The last SACD label to use shrubbery was Membran and that didn't end well.

P.P.S. I noticed that one cannot search on Ax in the database ... seems more than 2 letters are needed for a search.

Would you prefer a Seurat Pointillism rendering of the two artists on the cover? Would that be more to your liking?

Maybe if they were playing Debussy.

A very fine disc indeed. Exceptional recording quality once again from this fine stable aided by superlative performances played more or less 'straight down the middle'. MTT has an excellent grasp of both works; Ax's playing is exemplary and a refreshing change from the recent spate of sub-par idiosyncratic performances of the 4th on SACD.

Colour this disc an outstanding success and look forward to the next from SFSO...

Good to know, as Beethoven has been so under-represented in the recording catalog over the decades.... : )

Can't wait for his Copland and Barber though....

Is this a wish list or do you have any actual information about these pieces being recorded?

I agree. MTT is a master on those composers. I love Barber's both symphonies, as well as much of the rest of his orchestral work. Marin Alsop conducts the Bournemouth SO on several amazing RBCDs on Naxos, but though still very good, the sound would benefit from high res SACD immensely. And probably MTT would be the best available conductor to do this. How about the symphonies, the concertos and the three essays?
His Copland is also masterful. Maybe he is reading this post?

Sorry for not being more specific. MTT is a specialist in Copland at least, and the American "neo-Romantics" generally. These composers just seem screamingly appropriate candidates for new recordings in SF.

IIRC RCA recorded his Copland survey a couple of years ago in 24/96 but they sit in a vault while my ears accumulate dust.
