These were the beginnings. At that time and even earlier, when we were first recording in surround - even before the format was established - we were hoping multichannel would catch up as the superior way of presenting a sonic and musical event. I am delighted that you are still here discussing about our recordings, making it possible that multichannel recordings continue to be released.

Thank you!
(and apologies for the long posting)

Dear Martha,

Rather it is we who should be thanking you. Whether Phillips, Ondine, HM, or Ancalagon, in fact on whatever label your name has appeared as the producer of a recording, it has constituted a virtual guarantee of the highest artistic and sonic standards. I hope there are many more multichannel projects in your future.

Sincerely,

Bill

Ondine has announced a new recording deal with Christoph Eschenbach and the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington:

The press release doesn't mention they will be SACDs though...

I suspect not, but would that I be proven wrong. I think the last Eschenbach/Philorch, the Mahler #2, on RBCD only is harbinger of what is to come. It's a pity, not because I want more Mch Eschenbach, but because the Ondine SACD's were quite excellent sonically.

Ondine switched distributors and the new one wouldn't do SACD.

They switched ownership as well, now belonging to the Naxos Group.

And this would be the A-ha! moment in this conversation...

Although Naxos does also distribute Dacapo and BR-Klassik, among others, who continue to produce SACD titles, so mere association with Naxos is not necessarily a kiss of death for SACD production. But outright ownership is another matter.

If they wanted to release some Eschenbach/National on Blu-ray audio instead, that would certainly work for me.
