. Consider this my last post on the matter either way.

IF ONLY, this was your last post.
I agree that ebay is an ideal way to get a realistic price.
Recent rare out of print items have gone for about one quarter of the stupid greedy Amazon prices.Just do a search.

If one ever wonders why SACD will ALWAYS remain a niche format/market, then read no further than this particular thread. Hirefox touched upon it and called it a conundrum....Universal/Japan with its "limited edition" SHM~SACDs has spread "fear" among collectors that if they don't purchase upon initial release they will risk paying hundreds or even thousands for OOP SHM~SACDs. Teac~Esoteric has the distinction of having the priciest reissues with increments every time a new batch of 96/24 remasters is announced.

My friends, ALL SACDs are limited editions (with the exception of BIS who maintains a complete inventory of all their SACDs)......

And, ironically, the entry price hardware for playing SACD has diminished. The OPPO is astounding for its meager price (and even the NuForce OPPO is a bargain when compared to the whacky prices of SACDs)...

And I still find it amazing that smallish companies like 2L, Bis, Pentatone, Chandos, Chesky, Praga can still record, master and market SACDs for truly reasonable prices (which are further discounted on the various websites).

And now SA~CDnet readers want to make a quick buck by inflating the prices of their purchases by competing with Amazon and E~bay for similar OOP prices.

If I were new to SA~CDnet and was considering entry into the SACD format, I think I'd switch to Tennis!

LOVE UP, anyone?

You know, have at it, but it's really not that great a performance. Stravinsky's own (I believe on SACD) or Dutoit's are far better with regard to capturing the atmosphere, eroticism, poetry etc. IMHO.

Agreed on the Dutoit.

The sound is also so-so. It has a lot of impact, but like many MLS recordings, the sound is quite forward and upfront.

i really appreciate the discussion. i agree with the poster/posters to avoid getting caught up in the heat of "gotta have it now." i'm aware of hyper-inflated/unrealistic pricing - in fact, i have some books/rb cds, dvds, etc. that are priced by others astronomically high on amazon/ebay. while it's a free country (or internet world) and all that, in the end, this is a hobby and i refuse to get caught up in the "dog eat dog" game some folks seem to engage in. frankly, it's a big turn-off, and it's also not fun to associate with folks like that (either on the net or "in the flesh.") thank goodness there are others (like some of the posters) who don't play that game either - otherwise i think i would look for another hobby - you know, avoiding guilt by association and all that.

in my experience, in any event, i usually find what i'm looking for at a much lower price than i ever expected, albeit serendipitously - just by being patient and browsing.

i do enjoy reading these posts!

Intresting thread some time ago I had a difficult decision to make I wanted the Boulez Mahlers on DG, price was way over the top on Amazon (300 pounds ) the problem was no way could I afford them but did I risk not purchasing and then regret when the next copies showed up at a higher price. I found them at normal retail prices on Play.com, since then the price on Amazon has plummeted and now the price is much more realistic,

I have the Dorati Stravinsky which I bought from a shop which specialised in Rock and Pop for the price of £7.99 the dealer said that it was an error purchase as 99% of the customers were not intrested in classical and even less knew about SACD it had laid there gathering dust in the stock for months. The moral is don't dismiss any outlet out of hand and be prepared to rummage

You never know what can turn up, before Jared re-issued a couple of the earlier Philips Ivan Fischer discs earlier this year prices for both the out-of-print originals were heading for the Moon. Now we have the same recordings in different packaging for beer money.

There are always Saints like Jared, or perhaps that only counts as one miracle?

Now if only Teac~Esoteric and Universal/Japan could emulate St. Jared and give us multi~channel versions for beer money, too.

And unlike the aforementioned, St. Jared has to pay licensing fees to Universal for the privilege, meticulously remaster the original QUAD recordings and still manages to eke a profit.

Does anyone else share my opinion?

The original Philips recording were all 5.0 MCH and a stereo mix, which I believe Jared decided to re-master the stereo mix.

Tino,

I know you mean well, but Stephen, aka Zeus, does not want us putting our ebay listings on the site.
