Unless Analogue Productions utilizing the Grimm Audio Converter continues the project (they did release on SACD, the Power Of The Orchestra, an RCA Living Stereo title, two years ago and, IMO, it sounded fantastic (but the Grimm was not used in the remastering process).

Analogue Productions... or Channel Classics. Wouldn't it be great if Jared Sacks and Hein Dekker could continue the work started by John Newton and Dirk Sobotka?
BTW, Channel Classics also uses the Grimm.

Methinks though meaneth 'the Power of the Orchestra' with Liebowitz/RPO playing the Mussourgsky Pictures and Night on Bare Mountain, sirrah?
That forcibly reminds me of the other sensational 'British' Shaded Dogs that have never appeared on SACD- and probably now never will:
1) Witches Brew/Gibson- LSC 2225
2) Bizet/Faust/Gibson LSC 2449
3) Vienna/Solti- LSC2313
4) Royal Ballet Gala Performance/Ansermet- LDS 6065

Actually, this also reminds me of the era when great Decca producers and recording engineers (i.e Gerhardt and Wilkinson) got mixed up with RCA and Readers's Digest to produce some stunning recordings - you may recall Chesky released some of them on vinyl and RBCD a few decades ago:
1) Earl Wild- Classical Piano Magic; includes the great Rachmaninov concerto series with Horenstein and the RPO. A great conductor and soloist, and remember that the RPO was a great orchestra in the Beecham and post-Beecham era.
2) Festival of Light Classical Music; my rare UK original set of this is actually RCA branded...
3) A surprisingly modern-sounding Beethoven symphonic cycle with the RPO and Liebowitz
Now Reader's Digest ist kapputt, one wonders who is actually sitting on their pile of mouldering great masters...?! I imagine these might not be too expensive to have a crack at.

This brings back my childhood - we didn't have many records, and certainly no boxed sets, so the Reader's Digest 'Festival of Light Classical Music' assumed an iconic status in my eyes. I remember it vividly, the Degas 'LOrchestre' with its droopily moustached bassoonist, on the box cover, the booklet inside in pale green and white with some heavily portentous sleeve notes on the music, and the TWELVE LPs in their sleeves. There were the Figaro overture, the Moldau, Invitation to the Waltz, Suppé, Strauss waltzes, Swan Lake excerpts and many more riches I now can't remember. I have no idea who the performers were - I'd love to find a copy and check it all out again. I remember I was so proud of it that, aged about eight, I took it in to school to show it off. I don't think my schoolfellows were as impressed as I had expected....

I'm afraid nostalgia ain't what it used to be, is it?
As a young snotty audiophile, I was very dismissive about this set. It eventually vanished in a move.
Then, many years later, I discovered the value (musically, sonically and financially) of what had gone and was fortunate enough to come across a decent copy to replace it.
Chesky issued some fine excerpts from it some years ago - the set is actually full of fine orchestras like the NPO, RPO etc, conductors like Boult and Gibson playing basic classical repertoire. Top stuff, and stunningly recorded by Wilky.
That's why it's a genuine sleeper.
The thought of proper DSD transfers onto SACD is hair-raising. Come on someone- you know it makes sense. I bet it's far cheaper than getting hold of EMI, Decca or Shaded Dog masters!

Reader's Digest is still going - the UK wing had a buyout for a start.
The masters belong to Sony/BMG or RD itself I guess (not Decca/Universal) and at the moment Chesky is still paying substantial royalties for their releases.
If anyone is to release SACDs of these, Chesky would. The master tapes would need remastering from scratch, of course, a very expensive and time-consuming business.
And Chandos also has the rights to Earl Wild's Rachmaninov with Horrors.
I'd buy the lot at full-price plus.....
