I just picked up a new Bis release of Mozart Violin Concertos 3&5 and the Sinfonia Concertante with the Australian Chamber Orchestra under Richard Tognetti. It is being sold here in Sydney for $22.00. Haven't had a chance to listen yet but given the reputations of the ACO and Mr Tognetti as well as Bis recordings, it must count as the bargain of the year!!Thank you Bissie!!

This is the first mention of this release (at least that I can recall). Is it an SACD? Why, pray tell, do you propose it to be the bargain of the year?!

John how much did you pay for it? $22 sounds damned expensive especially for a BIS SACD which are priced the same as their CDs.

So far my bargain of the year was buying $5.97 Telarc SACDs from Amazon Marketplace. They were priced $2.99 plus $2.98 shipping per disc. There all gone now but I keep an eye on Amazon for the next SACD dumping.

OK, so I did find this one in the database here - no cover art. Somehow it escaped my attention as I usually check the new releases pages often enough. The question still remains to the OP - why bargain of the year?

Bizarrely this disc is £27.99 at HMV UK and nearly 60 euros at Amazon.fr, which is extraordinary for a single SACD. Unless those are just aberrations, $22 does indeed look like a bargain.

Long time reader and SA-CD.net follower here, but rarely post. However, with the theme of "bargain of the year" I wanted to share a bargain story as well.

Just last week, I picked up a new copy of the SACD version of Aion, from DCD, for AUD$4.99 here in Sydney. I was truly excited to even have found the SACD, sitting in the CD music bin section, but almost fell over when I noticed the price! Certainly made my day!

The OP is quoting Aus$ I'm sure - it is cheap as most SACDs here cost over $30. The Exton Ashkenazy SACDs cost $40.

I think my bargain was the BIS Bach Suzuki Brandenburg and Suites set which I got from MusicMars for $2.75 plus shipping of $2.98. Brand new and quite the steal

That is bizarre indeed, as the disc hasn't been released anywhere except in Australia, the home market of the Artists.
It will be a September release elsewhere in the world - BIS-SACD-1754. One wonders if HMV and Amazon are buying the disc from Australia. If so, sit tight and wait for the normal price.
Yes, the 22 Dollars are in Australian Dollars, which are slightly less than 20 US Dollars. Pricewise not at all a bargain in the rest of the world (but surely in Australia), but, considering who is playing, and that the playing time is 79'52, not so bad either.

Best - Robert

Do they have more copies? I'd like to buy them....
