According to the HMV Japan website five Universal Japan SACDs will be re-issued in June at a price of 4,500 yen: Bach Orchestral Suites 2 and 3 (Richter), Liszt piano works (Arrau). Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem (Karajan), Saint-Saens, Organ Symphony (Barenboim), Bartok Concerto for Orchestra (Solti).

Let us hope that this is only the beginning.

¥4500 = ~$48

BTW, Universal has recently announced it will lower CD prices in the US to $6-10 (~¥560 - ¥934) http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100320/music_nm/us_universal

Yes, and the first time they released these they were at 3000 yen which was a little more than $35.

+ overseas shipping.

Elusive disc's pricing of Esoteric SACDs doesn't seem too bad now.

Teac~Esoteric's pricing of between $60 and $70 per disc is still outrageous for a single disc. Today, I just received Seven (7) Pentatone remastered Quadro recordings sealed and with NO blemishes whatsoever, from Berkshire Records for Less than $70 [s/h included]......and ALL are re~mastered from original Philips 4~channel tapes (from the likes of Neville Marriner, Leopold Stokowski, Kurt Masur, Salvatore Accardo and I Musici and Arthur Grumiaux). And lest we forget, Pentatone has to license these masters directly from Universal Music, do the transfers (CD/STEREO/M/C layers),Prepare the glossy booklets, have them pressed and export them to the US at a list price of $19.95! And let's be perfectly frank: If any of these treasured Pentatones showed up in STEREO only from Teac~Esoteric at $70 I'm sure the minions on this site would rejoice!!!!!!!!!!!!!Reminds me of the fraternity pledge scene in Animal House when the pledges' behinds are being paddled and they cry out for "MORE!" POSSESSION IS NINE~TENTHS OF THE WORD!

Pentatone have been discounting those titles fairly heavily at some online outlets which suggests they haven't been selling well.

Maybe if PentaTone set their SACD prices at $70, audiophiles would start buying them, such is the psychology of pricing.

At first I though this could be just a few discs that were found in their warehouse, and are now being sold at collector's prices, given their rarity.

But discs have new reference numbers, so they seem indeed to be re-pressings.
