Dear Robert von Bahr - I've had this disc for about 7 years but I've just now gotten around to a "critical" listen. What a fantastic recording this is!! It is one of your relatively few DSD masters and let me tell you, it is splendid. I would plead with you in this public forum - please return to this type of recording technology. I really love BIS recordings (even the non-DSD mastered SACD's) but there is something quite special about the sound of this SACD. The violin sound is simply natural and non-fatiguing, something that is rare on RBCD 16/44 and often hit or miss on higher resolution pcm recordings.

I know a lot of "ink" has been spilled over this issue on this forum but after the hour+ I just experienced listening to this release, I just had to make one more plea. This is special; I wish all BIS SACD's (and other labels, too for that matter) would sound this good.

They're INCREDIBLE performances too! The intensity is overwhelming!

Thanks for the review - I just ordered a copy: review seems to have been popular -->> the Amazon sales rating has shot up to 3300 in ALL Music (at the time of my writing).

Oddly, I noticed that on Amazon, the SACD is listed on two separate pages:

B000068URC (the product listed from here), and
B000068R3C

Both are stated to be hybrid SACDs, both are missing the manufacturer's photo of the cover, and both have user-supplied imagery instead.

I have noticed that this item seems to have been released as both a hybrid SACD (BIS-SACD1254) and as a plain CD (BIS-CD1254). My guess ... which might be wrong ... is that the second listing ... B000068R3C ... is actually the plain CD, and Amazon has incorrectly labelled both as the hybrid SACD ... and some user has supplied the wrong imagery too, adding to the confusion. But it would be good if someone knowledgeable about this could fix it up.

Presumably, clicking the link from here will yield the right goodies.

P.S. Krisjan, why not post your review to Amazon? ... There is only 1 review up there, and it would be helpful to others to have a second opinion.

Ignore Amazon's description and go with the linked item from here. The latter has a UPC of 675754515522, namely the CD version. Like most online vendors, Amazon will ship the disc with the corresponding UPC, not the one that matches the description, cover image etc.

Thanks for the idea - I will go ahead and do that.

I am pretty sure that BIS has never released dual inventory RBCD/SACD (hybrid releases only). It must be a mistake in the Amazon database.

I also thought they had never issued dual inventory ... but as you can see, the image of the "CD version" appears different. It says DSD in the top right corner, rather than Super Audio CD, and has a CD number in the top left corner, rather than an SACD number.

Ummm - I think you added your review to the wrong Amazon page (you added it to the CD version).
If you follow the link from here ... that's the right one ... and now very popular too ... now top 1700 of ALL Amazon music sales (well, today) :)

Zeus - Thanks for setting me straight. I guess in the early days BIS did in fact issue some dual inventory releases.

Canonical - Thanks. I went and posted the review in the right place and posted a comment on the RBCD indicating the review was intended for the SACD. The fact that this 8 year old release is climbing "up the charts" so to speak is a testament to Zeus and the reach of this site. Make sure to post you comments/review after you've had a chance to listen to it.
