I believe it is this 1991 recording which David Hurwitz called "one of the truly great sets of Brandenburg Concertos".

If it is that recording, I agree that it is excellent in every respect based on my RBCD version! SACD remastering will take its already fine sonics to a new level.

I think it is a SACD-re-mastered re-issue of the recording that was originally on the Astree label.
If I am right, I have always found the sound quality a little flat and woolly, I have to say. On SACD that should improve a great deal, unless the master recording was terrible. I look forward to hearing it on SACD.
However, I have always also found the performances to be a rare instance of Savall not being quite at the top of his form. It is by no means my favourite recording of the Brandenburgs.

Actually, not.
If it was recorded digitally in 1991 at CD resolution, then placing it on a SACD disc will change absolutely nothing at all ... All you can ever hope for is to get as close to the master as possible, and if the master was a 1991 CD resolution recording, then that is all you are buying: a CD ... which is fine if you want the CD. But if you think placing this onto SACD is going to take the "fine sonics to a new level", I am happy to sell you the Sydney Harbour Bridge for a special price.
Aliavox (Savall) basically release everything on SACD these days as single issue hybrids ... Their new recordings seem to be recorded in higher resolution and some of them sound pretty good indeed. The old early 1990 recordings are just CDs distributed on the SACD format ... and they sound exactly like what they are: flat CD sound, no zing, no special clarity.

I got the 6 first releases of this serie "Héritage" of Alia Vox and I'm very pleased to wait all these Savall/"Astrée" treasures in a very good packaging and SACD multichannel audio (about 80 recordings).
I'm confident with Savall and Alia Vox team for making the best possible with the original recording "master".
I wait eagerly the release of the "five books for viol" by Marin Marais, Requiem of Mozart and Symphony No3 of Beethoven.

It would be great if Alia Vox, like Channel Classics, could record all their future releases in DSD with the Grimm converter, Savall's music deserves DSD.

Their 24/96 recordings sound great. The main factor for a good recording are the skills of the engineer, not the A/D converter, as long as the recording is hi-rez.
The CD release of the 1991 Brandenburg concertos says DDD (according to online sources), so this looks like an odd reissue choice from a technical point of view. Their SACD reissue of "Kunst der Fuge" was made from a 1986 analogue recording.

Curious ... May I ask how do you know which ones are 24/96? I have noticed that the newer recordings sound much better, but I can't find any mention of resolution on the boxes. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place?
