Have you received your copy of Beethoven: Diabelli Variations - Marco Alcantara yet? I am interested to hear your opinion, relative to this recording.

Were the producers and/or consumers of SACDs not so fixated on rear speakers, a reissue of Brendel's 1964 performance would be a jewel in the crown of superaudio (and maybe even get a review in Stereophile...).

As I understand it the BIS/Brautigam series will include the Diabellis, and I'll happily wait for that version. For now I listen to Anderszewski's fine version on dvd (video). He also plays the quite beautiful Schubert variation as an introduction.
