I am listening to this as I write, and once again am amazed by the totality of this recording - first rate music rendered in first rate sound, and one of the most amazing packages you are going to find. I reviewed this set five years ago(!) and still consider it to be a wonder. Channel is, I'm sure, quite proud of this and deservingly so. I mention this because of the season, and also because we often tend to focus on the newest or upcoming releases. If you care about Bach in any way and don't own this, you should.

Thanks for your positive remarks on this recording. Unfortunately we are not making the same packaging anymore. To make the box with real velvet was fine for the original release and even subsequent pressing. But to continue this (plus a 200 page booklet) is asking too much.) We would have to go deep in our pockets again to press it in a good amount to make the cost price come down.
The music is the same 2x SACD(which in the end is what it is all about.) The booklet is now only 50 pages and the box is not velvet. Sorry - so many reactions from people who just wanted to hold the box!
And not to forget it is now with a christmas offer for half the price as the original.

greetings

So now I own a collector's edition! I appreciate the update, and certainly the performance is well worth having.

Mine as well, starting after church in the last few minutes of Christmas Eve and going into the early hours of Christmas morning, followed by Corelli's "Christmas Concerto" from the excellent new set of the Op. 6 on Linn. Wonderful!

Finally picked this up last month after being in my Amazon wish list for the past 2 years. : )

Great recording with exceedingly realistic ambience from rear surrounds. This and NBS "Magnificat" are requirements for Christmas.

BTW, first part is for Christmas day and before and second and subsequent parts are for Boxing day and after. That was Bach's intent when he wrote it:

Well, shall we say for the sake of liturgical accuracy that Bach's intent was to perform the individual cantatas from Christmas Day to Epiphany Sunday?
