He is entitled to do so only so long as he gives them a fair listen. As it turns out, a recent shipment of SACDs and BluRays for me was sent, by accident, to him. He graciously offered to send them on to me but asked if I was in a hurry to get them or if he could give them a listen. I agreed and he did. Fair enough?

So it's possible that the immutable Sam Tellig will become a convert to SACD and um blu-ray? In my experience, you can't teach an old dog new tricks so this should be interesting. BTW, I received a box of goodies myself, today, mostly blu-rays but the Kent Nagano Bruckner Fourth (Sony: SACD multi-channel) was among the items and a quick listen (presumably it was DSD~recorded) convinced me that it is a worthwhile purchase (especially at Amazon's bargain price of under $12). BTW, I enjoyed John Atkinson's comparisons of the DCS Puccini (with U-master clock) with the Ayre and the Meridian 808.2. Any chance, you'll compare the Sony 5400 with the OPPO BDP-83? Or would that comparison be superfluous? Or, better yet, the SE version of the OPPO (analog out) with the Sony HDMI out (for multi-channel, of course).

Kal sounds fair to me, where any of the SACDs or BluRay's Opera? If so that might change his mind as one of the reasons Sam didn't like SACDs was the lack of Operas.

Yes but he didn't play any of the BRDs as they were still sealed. I do not know if he has a BR player.

Come on record companies - there is an opportunity for you! Surely it can't be the greatest marketing challenge in the world to feed a demand. Let's at least start with some reprints of deleted/hard to find/over priced titles.

exactly, if titles are selling out why not press more????????

I would choose whatever format gives me the music I love.

But what if you could buy the same recording only separately each different format, which would you prefer?

You don't need to ask this, Flyingdutchman was just writing that to upset Teresa.

"Lies, damned lies, and statistics"

Disraeli ?

Steve O.

Full quotation is as you stated, alleged to be orginated by Disraeli but no hard evidence to back it up as other similar phrases were around at the time. According to wikipedia Mark Twain picked the phrase up and popularised it.

In the context of the Stereophile poll I could have equally written "the people have spoken, damn the people" Which is what maybe the likes of non SACD belivers may be thinking given that SACD seems to be at last garnering some good positive publicity and the number of machines is increasing, all we need now are more and varied genre discs.
