Most probably a sign that labels producing SACD do, on average, a better mastering job. Happy for Harmonia Mundi's Palestrina SACD winner - HM do produce some wonderful DSD mastered records with stunning sonics. I can imagine more SACD winners if the jury had used a proper MCH SACD player .... hopefully also a sign that SACD's are gaining momentum.

But the awards are for the musical performance, not for the sonics.

I know ... I know... and I don't disagree. But excellence in sonics could be decisive if musical performance is similar for competing entries. Let's not forget that awards are for the artist's record, not for a live performance.

Sadly not a single SACD was a winner in any category.

Thanks for the correction. Still only one out of fifteen categories is disappointing.

It doesn't matter how many won. Do you really have faith in Gramophone's review process? If they are in fact good recordings of good performances (you've got to listen for yourself here), that's good enough, and those who appreciate SACDs are the winners. I have four of these recordings, all of which are splendid, and could care less if Gramophone has anointed them as winners.
