In the current issue of RS mag, "Why The Beatles Broke Up," there is an interesting insert article describing the new stereo/mono remasters. It seems that neither Sir Paul nor John Lennon were "audiophiles" and that was best left to George Harrison. When asked why RBCDs were being released rather than higher def (blu-ray was mentioned) Paul Quipped: There's still time....it's still early. Does this leave the floodgates open or will we have to live with this (supposedly much improved but still rbcd) "tease" for another decade? All albums, incidentally, have been transferred 24/192 from the heavily (and I mean heavily) vaulted master tapes. Still, what a waste!!!!!!

Depart of Mrs.Linda was a huge loss for Paul.
Beatles broke-up because of the Serpent effect, just ask Yoko Ono, or better yet ask to Adam & Eve.
August2009 and no Beatles SACD!! Do the Beatles Copyright isnot own by Mr.Michael Jackson??

Actually, Gustavo, if you read the article, Paul was at the center and John, George and Ringo were "the back-up" band and George "quit" at the Let It Be sessions because Yoko had more input than he did (and she was a "cockroach") I do have a sneaking suspicion that the Beatles Remasters will someday be released onto Blu-Ray (surround, I am not sure) because they were mastered in 24/192 which would make it a natural for DTS Master Audio but sacd, at this juncture, would just be here-say. Regards, Raphael

I assume maybe wrongly that McCartney has a high end audio system to listen to music. I only think this because I know at his home in Sussex he had a full blown recording studio built (whether it is still in existence I do not know). If I can listen to Band on the Run on A DTS disc and Love on a DVDA I expect he can. As to why he cannot sanction the release of SACD's by EMI not sure but in the 80's when RBCD was starting to take off EMI was one of the last companies to get into the format and it was alleged that the Beatles put pressure on EMI to release the back catalogue on the CD format. Over years the Beatles catalogue never been put out as a cheap reissue and any costs must have been recouped years ago. Everyone who wants them will have them already. The new reissues although with extras are only RBCD. As I said in another thread the Beatles albums could have been "stealth" SACD releases like the Stones ones so as not to frighten the public but sadly not even that is likely at the present time. The blu-ray versions are more likely but not for a considerable time in my opinion

After listening to SACD, I would buy the entire Beatle Catalog in SACD right now. I am disappointed with this remastering ... I don't expect a big improvement from a sonics standpoint.

I do, since the last remastering was rubbish.

I agree The Beatles SACDs should be superb. If you can play DVD-Audio try The Beatles Love, it is 24/96 multichannel and sounds excellent. To reissue the Beatles on CD "AGAIN!" is a fantastically blatant insult to all who love music.

If not SACD or DVD-Audio, at the very least they should release 24/96 DVDs which can be played on any DVD player.

I suspect it will be a wait and see approach because supposedly (according to the RS mag insert article), the Masters have been greatly improved but for readers of SA-CD net, naturally this won't be good enough. As one poster mentioned, Capitol under pressure from the Beatles authorized the first (and dismal) RB remasterings in the early 80's. The DTS version of Band on the Run while not one of DTS' best efforts, opened up the soundfield immeasurably and the LOVE remaster was nothing short of brilliant but would George Martin (at his age) and his son Giles (a better possibility) who very reverently re-mastered LOVE for DVD-A, take on the task of remastering their entire back catalog (and the treasure trove of unreleased material languishing in the vaults). In lesser hands, it could be counterproductive....is Geoff Emerich still available???????

A number of classic, full-length Beatles tracks are scattered through the 5.1 soundtrack of the "Anthology" DVDs in STUNNING surround sound - really marvellous.

Somebody has clearly already remixed those for multichannel. They make you weep for more.

If the 1 album is a hint at what is possible then I expect the remasters to sound great (even on RBCD). Our then drummer worked at Abbey Road when these were being done but I was sworn to secrecy!

I vowed I would not buy them but am already considering the Mono and/or Stereo boxes.

Worst case I can sell them on and probably lose very little. Hell I doubt I will escape!

Yes I have done enough comparisons between RBCDs and SACDs to know that something will be missing but to be honest some of my best moments were listening to the Beatles on AM radio. I only had Sgt Pepper in mono and it sounded great.

I have some other original mono albums and they are good but not without flaws.
