Lyrita

Doesn't produce SACDs, only RBCD and vinyl.

I am referring Lyrita's LPs and even their MP3s. They would make fantastic SACDs IMHO, Lyrita are among the very few labels that bring the concert hall experience into my room.

Lyrita was almost always recorded by Decca technicians, so why not include Decca as well.

I also like the pre-digital Decca's as well, especially on 180 Gram LPs by Speakers Corner.

Dear bissie,

Contrary to what you might believe, I and a very large number of SACD buying people I know really do want all SACDs to be recorded direct to DSD and with no PCM in the chain whatsoever. Some more discerning labels do so, and their work is hugely appreciated, so why can't you also record your SACDs in DSD?

Personally I find it perverse and pointless to convert PCM to DSD. If you really have some issue with recording to DSD then stop making SACDs and just release the PCM Masters. I and my friends will buy them :)

This has already been discussed ad nauseum on this forum. As for you and your friends, you don't count for others who will buy BIS recordings regardless of whether they are DSD based or not. DSD doesn't mean quality. Sorry, you're wrong.

Dear bissie,

Contrary to what you might believe, etc etc...

BIS does a lot of editing on their recordings. Meaning up to hundreds of edits per disk. DSD can not be edited in DSD domain as you might know, so what would be the point of pretending to use DSD?. BIS prefers to use PCM which provides a straightforward and relatively cheap edit platform, rather than change their way of producing disks (and yet another huge investment in multitrack DSD recording & editing systems).

DSD happens to be the way SACD layers are encoded, and we are stuck with it. 98% of the time it does not make any sense like you say, but DVD-A floundered and BR audio is here too late. SACD does work, though. Even if most players/processors or listeners (using Audyssey etc) convert it to PCM before DAC anyway… Double stupid. In the light of all this clamoring for pure DSD SACDs is, well, kind of stupid also.

And we wonder why Stephen wants to kill the forum.

Why pick on BIS? Most SACD's are produced the same way, PCM-DSD. Moreover, DSD cannot be directly edited, so it is converted to DXD, which is essentially PCM. Since nearly all recordings are edited, it follows that nearly all SACD's have PCM in the recording path. And, most masters are PCM. To my knowledge, unedited DSD masters are only created by Channel Classics for its multi-channel track, but the stereo track is subject to DXD conversion.
