If you look closely at the picture, you might notice, amongst other things, that it says VOLUME 1 ... suggesting still more yum-yums on the way :)

Here's a quote from their February newsletter.
"Julia Fischer will also play one of the piano parts of the Fantasie in F minor (D. 940/Op. 103) which will be on the second volume. The first series of sessions took place in January in a farmhouse turned into a studio in Valthermond in the countryside in the Northern part of Holland."
Now I'm listening to Perahia/Lupu's D940. :)

Is this a recording Julia made before moving to Decca? Is there any word on Julia returning to Pentatone? I am actually pretty pissed off that Julia decided to go to Decca in the first place... a label that was more interested in putting out "stars" rather than music.
I would sure like to hear why she went to Decca and thought this was some kind of artistic decision. Obviously it wasn't, given Decca's inclinations towards cross-over crap. Decca has paid the price for favoring image over substance. I hope she's learned something from this.
I said it before and I'll say it again... Julia didn't need Decca, Decca needed Julia!

One reason I heard from some folks who are closer to her than we, is that PentaTone recordings are not well distributed. Checking, I looked in the only remaining "brick and mortar stores still in Albany. Barnes and Noble had one Pentatone in stock - her Brahms. No other PentaTones at all. Borders - none at all. FYE (For your Entertainment) no PentaTones at all. She purchased a violin for over a milling Euros. She is still paying that debt off. If Decca offered her 2 or 3 times as much money as PentaTone, maybe it is logical from her point of view to move. Unfortunately she never was terribly interested in why PentaTone sound is superior to other CDs. That, I am paraphrasing from someone in PentaTone. When I spoke with her briefly after her recital at Union College last April, she was aware that the same engineers made her Decca recording of the Bach concertos as made her PentaTone ones. I told her "But the Bach is not a multi-channel SACD. Her response was: I will have to work on that. But perhaps Edvin was correct when he said "she was just telling you what she thought you wanted to hear!"
If you get to talk to her after a concert. Tell her how disappointed you are with her change of label. Back it up with some facts about SACD vs rbcd.
More important, I think is to make a point of selling Arabella Steinbacher and Martin Helmchen on the desirability of SACD and PentaTone in particular.

I ought to have said selling Arabella Steinbacher and Martin Helmchen on the desirability of promoting SACD and of staying with PentaTone in particular.
Spend time after the concert with these artists and gently - that is important or eyes will glaze over almost immmediately - educate them to why SACD is superior and needs to supplant the regular CD.
