Karsten's very nice review of this prompts me to add that I also own it. I have as well Victoria Mullova's RBCD, Anne Sophie Mutter's with the Trondheim Soloists, and most notably a DVD with none other than the nineteen yr old Julia Fischer leading the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. That is a wonderful performance and an entertaining video. As an aside I have a little Siamese cat who will always come and sit down in front of the TV when this is playing. She stays there until the focus comes off Julia and finally for just a few seconds highlights an orchestral member (second violinist I think), with a rather severe expression. At this point the cat slinks away, casts a look over her shoulder and on finding that the focus has returned to Julia - rather pretty at age 19, returns to sit in front of the TV for the duration!
But my favorite of all the Four Seasons I have heard is:
Vivaldi: The Four Seasons, Piazzolla - Lara St. John
I admit that its brazen originality will not set well with everyone - however I recommend it VERY highly! Be aware that technically the violin and orchestra are beyond reproach. The interpretation is the most fresh I ever heard! Lara St. John has her very own voice and needs to be heard - you will be richer for it.
