Wasn't that kind of a farce? What was so special about that one anyways?

If I remember correctly, that particular CD was catalog number 35DP 4 and it was sealed. The 35DP series of CD, from Japan CBS/Sony, was the first series of Western pop/rock titles to be issued on CD on October 1st, 1982 and amongst the first 50 CD titles available to consumers on that date. That Pink Floyd CD also is distinctive because it only has 2 tracks; subsequent versions of that same title have more track separations. On top of that, it has the obi strip typical of Japanese CD/SACD....and an intact obi can double the value of such CDs.

Of course, all of this may sound silly to non-collectors. But, as a CD collector myself, all of this is part of the fun of collecting. Would I spend $2K on a CD? No way! But, as the saying goes...."one man's junk is another's treasure".

Back to SACD....since most SACD releases are only given one single pressing run, I'd not surprised if many SACD will gain value over time. For example, Spandau Ballet's "True" SACD has gained value despite having its CD version given away in a recent newspaper promotion in the UK.

On the other hand, he is quite polite and does answer emails very promptly, so not completely evil.

Polite, yes, but he did not answer emails (or the phone, for that matter) promptly. It's taken me a couple of months but I did get (most of) my money back in the end.

This is what is so frustrating to me. I may be searching for an SACD version of a disc which costs the earth second hand and yet there are constant re-issues of the RBCD ad nausium going for cheap prices. I cannot reconcile the fact that somebody somewhere must be buying the constant reissues otherwise why bother with the process of manufacture. I think it would be wiser to stop the cheap reissues (or price them higher). They then could be quietly replaced by the Hybrid SACD version, yes I know that it costs more but the record companies are their own worst enemies. They have constantly devalued their product over the years so that when a premium product comes along like SACD no one buys. A good case in point is the Beatles reissues they could and should have been released as "stealth " SACDSs rather like the Stones SACD and surely they would have sold enough to recoup the cost. But EMI say no not viable sad. SACD could have picked up a few converts with this sort of approach over the years rather than withering on the vine.

Well, it's strange. I've definitely seen up (way up) "spikes" in SACD market price, and also drops.

I agree that they likely won't fetch the prices of rare vinyl, I do think they'll outlast rare vinyl (though remain in much more of a niche). I just don't see SACDs becoming ten cents in the bargain bin either.

Just spotted Michael Jacksons Thriller going for £250 pounds on Amazon UK from a guy in glasgow talk about cashing in!! hope nobody buys it

On a brighter note, I've noticed that after a long absence in availability as a new title (and the resulting spike in price on the used market), Chris Botti's Night Session is now available new and directly through Amazon US for app $19.

On the other hand, Amazon US also shows that another Kraftwerk Minimum Maiximum set has shown up (besides the one that has been available there at $750 for a while), this one at $930!

Okay, I just have to reiterate -- Everyone STAY AWAY FROM DVD4MUSIC.CO.UK.

American Express just denied my claim (after a lot of rumination) on the item he never sent because I filed the dispute *61 days from the charge* vs 60 days.

Keep in mind, DVD4MUSIC.CO.UK continued to tell me "any day now" for quite a while.

His scheme is to *keep you going for 60 days*, after which he knows he's home free and the money is his.

The guy is a criminal, *period*. And he won this time.

I'm lucky it was only an $80 lesson; it could have been more.

Thankfully people like Hans exist who were willing to sell me the title I was looking for, for an honest price... so all is not lost, but:

If something like this happens to you *DO NOT WAIT 60 DAYS*. Do not believe the lines of "just wait a little bit longer."

I know this isn't "on topic" and a few other folks have given warnings about this same place; I just don't want anyone else to have to go down this road for a 'rare' title.

With prices that have been seen for things like "Keane - Hopes and Fears" and "Kraftwerk - Minimum Maximum", scammers are going to start targeting people who are looking for SACDs...

My database is maintained.
Current Status 172, 8 of them are already reserved, but no final deal is made

My collection is still for sale.
Currently, 77 SACD's are available.
Also, some 50 DVDA are for sale (list available on request)

Last time I visited my local specialty store they had a new copy for $60CDN.

I was (and am still) tempted but am not sure I care for the music enough to fork over that kind of dough.

really? that is a sweet price, imho.

to me, track 6 and/or 7 alone is worth the price of admission, not to mention the bonus track!

however, the CD layer on the hybrid SACD is not as good compared with the normal RBCD, played on a dedicated RBCD player. ymmv and depends heavily on the hardware in use.

snatch it before it is gone! :)

cheers,
wps
