Superb!

I have now ordered 10 SACD's.

Thanks! :-)

What is quite funny is that they are selling some hybrid SACDs for a lower price than the CD version of same. Rather defies logic ... unless people are stupid.

I noticed that too and I have a theory. The items chosen in this Blowout sale could be overstocks? That would explain the randomness of the titles chosen and why some titles both the CD and SACD versions are $5.98 and for other titles the CD is $13.98 and the SACD is $5.98. In the first case perhaps both are overstock and in the second only the SACD is overstock?

I ordered nine SACDs at $5.98 each to get the free shipping. This is the best sale of SACDs I've ever seen.

There are other possibilities, you know...

I'm going to order a bunch of SACD's as well, given the amazing price of only $5.98 each. Unfortunately, I think this is the final death knell for Telarc and SACD's. Concord Music had little interest in producing SACD's while it hung onto the key Telarc personnel, but has even less interest since letting so many of them go in January. The handwriting was on the wall when they first acquired Telarc a few years ago, and the founder/president/chief recording engineer, Jack Renner, suddenly "retired."

It's all a matter of bottom line. SACD's werent/aren't selling that well at Telarc; classical recordings sell even more poorly (which is what most SACD's are); and sales of recorded music hardware as opposed to digital downloads were suffering. I think we've likely seen the last of SACD's from Telarc, and that's a crying shame.

One of the real tragedies in this mess is that there were plans to issue a DSD-remaster of Robert Shaw's performance of "Ein Deutches Requiem" prior to the house cleaning. A DSD remaster of an older Telarc Soundstream recording takes a tremendous amount of time and effort, and as such is quite costly. Concord Music has no interest whatsoever in restoring many of those older, and quite wonderful, Soundstream recordings to their full glory. That aspect too is now history.

Yes, isn't it?
And I would hazard a guess that Ondine, under its new ownership, won't be doing many SACD:s, either.
There are companies who can read a balance sheet, and SACD isn't providing any good news there.
And, with the bashing recently, my enthusiasm for the medium has gone straight out of the window!
This Forum doesn't do much to encourage the ones that keep up the torch.

I would hope, for your sake Robert, that this forum, while initially created to promote the SACD medium, hasn't got anywhere near the power one might think it does to have even the slightest effect on sales of SACD's. The recent attack on your recording methods (from some of the very individuals who once praised them to the heavens) will likely have no effect whatsoever on your overall sales. After all, while there are no listed specs, there seem to be only a handful of us who are members of this site in the first place.

Also, most of the members who've posted their opinions regarding your recording methods don't care one way or another, and just enjoy the results as I do. Ms. T's praise for "pure DSD" recordings from Telarc, despite her best intentions, and that of others, has had no effect whatsoever in deciding the fate of the label. It is the "number crunchers" at Concord Music who have the final say, and given what has been their attitude toward Telarc since their initial acquisition, one can only ask, "why did they even bother?"

If you buy ten you can add an eleventh for free, plus shipping is free.

I just nabbed a couple... But I agree that this is not a good sign for the future of Telarc SACDs. It's more important than ever that we continue to make this a site for promoting SACD--not bickering about DSD vrs PCM. There aren't that many viable labels left who are spending the extra time and money to produce SACDs, so a bit more positive reinforcement would be a good thing.
