I am unsure that it is well known but a simple way to centre CD's in a tray is to operate the open / close function TWICE before playing a disc.

Open the tray, centre the disc manually as best you can in the tray disc recess using the outer edge regularity as a gauge. Close the tray and allow TOC to be read. Then open the tray fully and close it again. The first closing action locates the disc more or less in the correct central position with the second open / close action acting iteratively to achieve even finer adjustment of the central location.

Back in the dawn of the CD era there were many faulty pressed discs which did not repond to such treatment. When I tried to play them in any other machine the disc was inevitably rejected (except for the CD73 and I think possibly the original CD63). The orginal CD73 was a combination of top loader and front loader and as such had an unique loading mechanism which was a boon for faulty disc replay. look at the mechanism in the pictures below to see what I mean

I know a better way to never have probs with transport drawer (that I already said here) >>> Never buy a player with a drawer ( front loading),
Instead buy a player with a Top Loading CD Transport, Like Sony SCD1/777ES, AudioNote CD4, CEC TL0 Belt Driven(image), Burmester(belt driven too), Shangling, Accuphase etc...

Indeed most of my RBCD players have been and are top loaders

I do not think Saul B Marantz would have appreciated rubbish music.

"What I always tell people is the following: whatever product you listen to, regardless of cost, if your emotion is moved by your favourite music when you put it on, then this product or system has a value to you. But if that does not happen—even if the product is very expensive—then it has no value to you."
Ken Ishiwata of Marantz
KI's essential quote and why I'm celebrating my good friend and his work without shame.

Greetings to all,
I've a Dutch name Wilhelm, this is the 9th year of my friendship with Ken; although I've long left the New Zealand distributor for Marantz I'm inspired to celebrate Ken's 30th Anniversary milestone in form of an online project during my leisure time.

My leisure time project; it's ongoing and taking a long while because I'm not a professional web designer...

Last Christmas I distilled the essence of what I know into a graphical Advent Calendar for Ken's amusement. And for Ken's birthday last month I added additional graphics of Saul B. Marantz' "models"—releasing a Facebook "Page" to celebrate.

Spurred by Ken's email this morning that his Marantz KI Pearl set is now available—I would like to complement that by further releasing the reach of my own humble little graphical celebration; it is a friend's tribute rather than a fan's tribute ["fan" is too close to "fanatic"—it's actually not in me to be a "fan" as I'm very critically choosy]

The URL link in my "User Details" is an universal invitation to view all 27 graphics which has further fundamental KI quotes—it doesn't matter if you are a member of Facebook or not =)

Best regards,
Will

Paul Messenger has two columns about Mr. Ishiwata in the August issue of Stereophile.

KI Black Pearl:Due to my very disappointing experience with the overweight Marantz SA-7S1 No surround SACD etc. ( I do not agree with the review by Dr Sarconicus in Positive Feedback Online even the first PFO reviewer of the SA-7S1 sent his off for modification) or other reviews for that matter. Hired Fox is seeking improvements for the SA-7S1 ? IMO Black Pearl should not be purchased because it does not feature HDMI for surround sound SACD which IMO sounds better than Stereo. Even with its receivers Marantz needs to catch up. The best sounding CD/SACD player for the money is still the Sony XA5400ES if you can find one.

Wilhelm, You missed your vocation you should have been an English History teacher. Some say never criticise but I do not always agree.I suspect you may start quoting from Shakespeare next.

'BECAUSE MARANTZ NO LONGER MATTERS ' Why buy a backward MARANTZ Black Pearl ? no HDMI) No surround sound SACD ,when the Sony XA5400ES is less than half the price, and sounds better with lower jitter according to HFN RR.

I can forgive Ken the odd statement of the flippin' obvious because of his iconic status, however even guru's must exercise some restraint and caution in imparting their wisdom and choosing their shirts.
