Discussion: Bo Linde: Orchestral Works Vol. 3 - Sundkvist

Hoping Edvin will see this thread (thanks for your review). I have the Bis RBCD of the Sym 2 and Op.35 works (along with the violin concerto). Edvin - do you know this Bis recording? I wonder if it is worth duplicating with this SACD release. Based on your positive reviews of the other releases in this series I will probably buy them too as I really enjoy Linde's music. Also have a disc of Linde's piano and violin music on Bis RBCD 631 which I highly recommend.

The Bis is an rbcd, so it's worth duplicating. On Bis the violin concerto is without the cuts made later, small matter but anyway. The piece works better with the cuts. Linde didn't write a large amount of music as he died so young, and I absolutely recommend the three sacd's from Swedish Society. I also look forward to the fourth as I long to hear his Pezzo concertante for bass clarinet and orchestra, a brilliant piece.

Yes, the Bis with music for violin and piano is lovely. Have you heard his string quartet, once released by Deutsche Grammophon on LP?

Best, Thomas

Edvin - thanks for weighing in. No, I have not heard his string quartet. How much chamber music did he compose? Are there other chamber works that could be coupled with a new recording of the quartet to make it of interest to Bis or Pentatone or Channel? I'm surprised Robert at Bis did not complete a Linde series - just two releases. Of course with the recent kurfuffle going on about Bis SACD's he probably wouldn't sell many to the SACD-nazi's who frequent this site. Sigh.

The good news is that at long last the Disc has been released for sale in the last few days.
The bad news is ,that the link by Swedish Society to the place selling it does not infact list it for sale..?
Ah well,,

The others did end up available in the UK and at jpc.de.

This new disc has been delayed a number of times for reasons unknown to me. I received a review copy and it will be out there soon.

Just to say I totally agree with Edwins review and dont see any point in adding another identical review.
Intersting the comments about Britten but after a few playings I found myself wondering who else it reminded me of.Didnt sound overtly Swedish if you can put a label on it.More British composers from Lyrita type symphonists ie Rhubbra, Havgral Brian et al in its style at times(2nd and 1st symphony)
I think he may just have understated the quality of playing and recording and didnt mention the "Stunning" start of the second movement.
Certainly worth the money....Dave

Dave, thanks for weighing in on this release. It's still not available as far as I can see. I'd like to buy all three Linde SACDs but my usual source (Arkiv) does not carry these so I will wait for someone like Crotchet to have all three and then order them together.

Edit: Dave - you may want to click the "recommended" button for this release. I presume Edvin is the one recommendation so far.
