Just been reading a copy of Hi Defintion Review which is a UK publication. In the lastest edition (no 17) there is an interview with Ken Ishiwata of Marantz extolling the virtures of the BD8002 blu ray player. Buried away in the very last paragraph of the interview Ishiwata states that there is a follow up to the BD8002 being planned which will push for even higher audio and video performance. "As a true universal design it will not only play blu-ray but also Super Audio CD's and DVD-Audio discs" With that phrase the article ends !!!

Wether this is actually going to happen or it is a testing of the waters to see what the reaction I don't know but at least someone at Marantz would make me very happy if this is produced. Wonder what the timescale is befor it is released, bet it not cheap either.

Well, the D&M group (which owns Marantz, Denon and McIntosh) obviously has the technology to do such a player, as the top Denon BD model, the DVD-A1UD, plays BD, SACD and DVD-A (and DVD-V and CD, and...), and should be in the shops really soon (this month, or next month, probably it is already for sale in Japan). So I think it's only a matter of time, if the Denon player sells.

best,
Igor

It would make perfect sense but please let it be multichannel. Marantz has last year released the AV8003 and MM8003 pre-amp and amplifier. Both are 7.1-channel-capable and nicely executed in Reference Series design yet the series still only has stereo SACD players.

Here it is: The UD9004

Note: the picture included there is not a BD player but an SACD player, the SA-7S1, on which it's supposedly based.
