I only have two problematic SACD's out of about a hundred: Blue Train (J Coltraine), Now That I Found You: A Collection (A Krauss) and Foreigner's self-titled dvda.

My Lexicon RT-10 refused to play Blue Train after track 3 and Alison Krauss Collection after track 8 and Foreigner after track 6. All these discs play excellently on my Marantz DV 6001.

Here's a new one...I have a Denon player that played a hybrid disc just fine for months, then started skipping on the last few tracks. I brought it to the authorized service center where it played...flawlessly! I was sure it was switched to SACD setting at both locations, as it played the cd version on the disc just fine. I didn't know what to do, other than take it home, with my tail between my legs. Upon reconnecting the player and putting on the disc, it skipped again. i took the player out of my stack, and moved it around, thinking it was a interferance problem. no luck. Now that I have read about the fan solution, i will try that when I get off the road. To be continued...

Maybe I'll try the fan solution too. I noticed that the RT-10 runs even hotter than my Cayin tube cd player.

Glad to find this forum as I am experiencing lots of frustration with my Marantz SA11-S1 which for the last two nights has stopped playing SACDs, particularly two relatively new purchases: Wes Mongtomery's Incredible SACD on Riverside, and the 25th Anni version of Dark Side of the Moon -- both of which played perfectly up til this and are not scratched or damaged otherwise. I have emailed Marantz for help, the player is only 27 months old, from an authorized dealer, but this is putting me off new SACDs. The regular red book CDs play perfectly.

I live in hope that SACD can be sustained and grow -- but at this rate, I see myself moving to computer audio FLAC files in the near to mid term and giving up on CD entirely. I never had this problem with LPs!

You likely need a new laser. The SA-11S1 uses the HOP1200 series laser. They don't cost much, and are easily replaced.

Thanks. I have been told to ship it off to a service center where I hope they'll take care of it under warranty. If not, I may just keep it for redbook and get a Sony XA5400es which I gather sound great. If the repair is cheap, all the better. Am strangely relieved it's the player not the disks.

I've been having skipping problems with my Oppo DV-980H on several discs, including an SACD right out of the shrink wrap. I sent 3 of the discs off to Oppo to have them test them.

I imagine that there's a problem with my player. The skips are all somewhat different in nature and duration, but they are reproducible every time.

Marantz should be able to replace, or adjust, the laser for fairly low cost. Yours is not the first player with this issue.

RBCD playback of the Sony XA-5400es first class. One reason may be its twin-laser system; there's a dedicated laser for CDs and another for SACDs. If you decide to replace the Marantz, you many not miss it. Since its been in my system I find I'm spending as much time listening to long shelved CDs in my collection as to my SACDs.

There is nothing unique about the two lasers in the 5400ES player. Repairing the SA11 is a far less expensive option than purchasing the Sony player.
