Regarding the 3-channel tracks, is it me or the recordings? I find the Rodrigo pieces to have a wonderfully seamless panorama of sound, but the Vivaldi pieces sound like they are coming from three loudspeakers.

Does anyone have a near mint copy of this for trade?

Please don't post for sale, swap, trade items here. Thanks.

It seems to me that Steven had a trade section early on, but I see that that segment of the site is no more. Sad that this is so since there are so many here, including myself, who would like an opportunity to trade recordings that they do not want. I'm curious what would have led to the decision to omit the feature.

I found my copy locally for about $10. They are out there and well worth getting at what ever price you feel it is worth for you.

Personally, I will not pay what I consider to be crazy prices that people are asking for some disc's I want; no matter how much I want them.

Agreed. I was lucky enough to finally secure my copy a year or so ago, at the princely sum of £27. And, no, it's not for sale.

Yes, it's a fine recording, but looking at these posted prices makes me shake my head with disbelief. Is anyone really stupid enough to buy at these hyper-inflated rates?

I think most people draw the line at $50 or $100 at best for a very rare disc, especially when the album is available cheaply in other formats.

The Amazon Marketplace prices are pure nonsense. If Amazon charged the sellers per month for listing them, these offers would not exist.

Successful Ebay auctions are the real indicator for the value of a disc.

I must very much disagree. Amazon and ebay are completely different types of auctions and markets. A standard ebay auction (without reserve) is essentially a forced sale: if the seller is lucky and a large number of interested participants happen to be following it, the seller will get the 'market' price i.e. the price at which demand and supply intersect. But, what usually happens is that only 1 or 2 bargain hunters bother to turn up (because it is a lot of work checking out what is on offer on ebay at any time), and most discs, if offered with a low starting price will usually sell for that low starting price ... just because there are not enough people following the auction, or who are willing to spend their time rummaging through 2000 discs just to find something that they can buy for a few dollars with certainty at Amazon. It is just not worth the effort, for most people.

Even when many people turn up to an ebay auction, prices on ebay tend to be lower than the Amazon price ... and I suspect this is again a combination of standard economic forces at work. Any ebay buyer always has the OPTION to go off and buy the copy sitting neatly for sale on Amazon (just a click away) ... so ebay buyers will almost always refuse to offer more than the Amazon price if they are well-informed.

In brief: ebay price should necessarily always be lower than Amazon price.

Equally, hunting on ebay (unless you have set up a search because you are only interested in 1 item) is a lot of time-consuming work ... so you might pick up some cheapies, but it will take you hours and hours of work to do that ... and if you value your time, whether you actually come out ahead is another matter. If you enjoy the hunt, well hunting can be fun. But the real cost of an ebay buy involves additional search costs.

The suggestion that ebay defines the market price is a bit like saying: "buy a decent Persian rug from a carpet dealer, put it up for auction the next day on ebay, and the price you get for it is the market price". It is, if you are desperate and forced to sell your rug that way. But, if you have other options, ...
