Hello !!!

i own a marantz DV8400 and i use it to listen to my sacds with a YBA initial and a pair of cabasse farella 402. According to my elements, could you tell me if it is worth buying the SA-11S1 ? I want to use the DV for video only. do you think that the SA-15 would be a better match ? (i will use only the rca outputs of the new SACD player)

Thank you

steinway

The SA11s1 is a much better player when it comes to CD en SA-CD.
But why go to a dealer and do a one on one?

How's the reliability of the SA11S1?

My SA12 issue is yet to be resolved by Marantz. The player's DVD side is pretty much dead. Anyone with problems with the Marantz?

Just realised my last post was in December 2004.

Mine is working fine! No probs at all. Use it for a couple of hours every day, more than a couple of hours in the weekends.

It has taken almost a year to resolved my faulty player issue with Marantz. Finally, it will be replaced by the SA11-S1... apparently, they are selling like hot cakes and my player won't be here till september.

Hopefully, it'll all be good with this player.

My SA11S1 is going superbly too. I use it regularly and it has given me no problems at all. The sound it produces with top class discs is simply glorious, whether they be SACDs or CDs.
Did anyone read Ken Kessler's review of it in the May issue of "Hi-Fi News" He loved the sound of the player, but seemed to lament that it was stereo only and he made one or two remarks about SACD that, quite frankly, would have been better left unspoken. He says he loves the format, so they certainly weren't associated with its technical or sonic qualities.

Noticed too that a few reviews tend to go along the line of the SA11S1 arrived too late... with the obvious hint that the format is struggling to survive...

My SA-11S1 is also chugging along very nicely. Performance has been virtually trouble free although there have been one or two instances of the player locking up during track advances, but considering how often I use the player (daily) this is a very minor issue.

I note too that this player has been reviewed now by quite a few credible magazines and has scored high marks from all. There have been some rather negative comments coming from a few members of other audio forums regarding the SA-11, particularly regarding the bass and treble performance. In light of the magazine reviews, these individuals have surely had their credibility badly dented. It highlights the importance of treating forum reviews with some caution.

The SA-11s1 stands tall (+ wide and deep) as one of the best SACD / CD players going around at any price. SACD is superb but imo redbook CD performance is right up there too and maybe a little underestimated, even by the best reviewers. Having lived with my SA-11 for around 8 months now I'm still yet to find a single negative point regarding audio performance, and perhaps even more importantly the SA-11 is allowing me to enjoy and rediscover my whole collection (even 20 YO discs) to an extent I would not have thought possible. Perhaps I've managed to fluke a magical system synergy, but somehow I can't imagine the SA-11 sounding anything less than sublime in any half decent system.

Yes, that was Ken Kessler's point. I'm sure we all agree, however, that all those remarks do is make people think long and hard about buying an SACD or Universal player -- and the longer they think about it, the less likely they will be to "take the plunge". I have a friend who is in that category, and he was contemplating buying an SACD player back in 2003, yet still hasn't done it -- and he tends to be evasive when I ask him about it.

My SA-11S1 is still going superbly and hasn't "missed a beat" as yet. I really feel that it would be difficult to imagine better SACD playback at any price, while standard RBCD is almost up with my CD-7 -- a hard act to follow.

thanks to the advice of Johnno, i am now a happy owner of a SA11-S1. it works great and is amazing on both SACDs and CDs.

This is pretty much my situation, my auido gear dates back from 1970's and is working perfectly, the only relatively new component in my setup is my CD player, that one dates back from mid 90's, never have experienced a breakdown. I simply can not convince myself to purchase expensive SACD player and then have to deal with continuous breakdowns and problems. The matter is further complicated by the fact that I live in Houston, the 4th largest city in US, there is only one audio store in this town, and they recommend Linn only, every other "audio" store is primarily into video sales and can care less about SACD. Sooo, I have to mail order from other places and then deal with long delays and wait time when the darn thing breaks down. To me this is much like purchasing a new car with no dealership to service it in my state.

The wait continues.

Vahe
