Hi Nexus for SACD the Sony XA5400ES is the best player I have found todate. Far better than expensive players e.g. Marantz SA-7S1 & dCs P8i which can not play surround sound.

After a long wait this player is available for pre-order at Crutchfield.

I bought mine directly from Sony Style - it took a week to arrive after order. While I paid full list price, I was able to take advantage of Sony's financing - no payments nor interest for 24 months.

Nice, I had the local Ultimate Electonics special order it for me. Since I had been a long time customer, they provided me with two $100 gift cards at time of purchase that I could use...so I got it for $1299 plus 18 month financing. Not a bad deal. I am really enjoying the player. I was just surprised to see it at Crutchfield after being out for quite a few months. Normally they carry the Sony ES stuff right away.

... but it says 'delivery uncertain'. As the machines are no longer made 'uncertain' seems appropriate legally.

Have you tried Stone Audio in Lychett Minster or Poundbury to find out when they're expecting stock again?

Hi everybody,

New here (not around...) so a big hello!

Today I got a 5400 player on loan: first thigns first, I took a look inside, and I must say I am a bit disappointed.

Besides the know DAC used (an off the box BB/TI 1796 chip), I saw on the analog board nice opamps for IV and SE out (OPA2132, three of them) bt then saw with horror one JRC2114 per side for balanced outs. Looks like those XLR are a bit of a 'fake' (not a real balanced signal from the DAC).

Opinions?

Best,

Josep

For what it's worth the current (July) issue of Gramophone gave the player an excellent review and praised both its parts and its build quality.
