This was my first time using Amazon marketplace but it will be my last. Both SACD's (Herman's Hermits and Animals) turned out to be normal CD's. Seller Import CDs.com clearly has no idea what they are doing.
They won't give a refund on the disc that are unpacked, but since the box gives no indication, I had to unpack to find out if this was the SACD version or not.
So no refund, just to discs I did not want, and did not order.
And yes, I did use the amazon.com links this website provides.

What did Amazon say? Surely they have some responsibility?

Sorry to read that you had a problem. I've never had a problem with ImportCDs and I've ordered quite a few SACDs from them via the Amazon Marketplace. However, I notice that both of these titles are ABKO and I assume that the situation is just like the Rolling Stones discs, the seller has no way of knowing if they are the SACDs or the CDs.

Bill, Glad to hear you do not have the same problems with them, they do have pretty good feedback on Amazon that's why I took the plunge.

But if they have no way of knowing they should not sell them as SACD, should they?

Suggest you do a search on the forum.
I had the exact same problem with the best of the Amazon sellers,Caiman on exactly the same disc..description of Animals disc was misleading.

These discs were sold by ABKCO as hybrid SACDs at the beginning, and then silently replaced by CDs, with the same reference number.

The sellers could not know that the product had changed. It's the label that's to blame for this fiasko.

But the sellers should now change the description (the SACDs are OOP) and refund those who ordered the discs thinking these were SACDs.

I have an extremely good experience with Caiman, my main source for SACDs. I've never received a wrong product.

Unfortunately, I recieved a damaged DVD and SACD (cracked case) from Caiman. The price was good, the packaging was terrible. I was refunded however.

Discs are listed by their barcode. That is the only way to list a disc. It is unfortunate that some discs have the same barcode for sacd and rbcd. Since the large sellers list thousands of discs, they don't really have time to pay attention to this. And buyers really have no idea. This is unfortunate.
Nonetheless, Amazon Marketplace is a great place to buy discs and to sell discs. I know, as I am both a buyer and a seller on Amazon Marketplace.

If there's such titles, I'll remove them from the vendor links here to avoid confusion. Despite numerous requests, I'm still waiting for confirmation that such and such a barcode is DEFINITELY a CD. Many titles have multiple barcodes (UPC, EAN, JAN) and I need to know which to pull.

Please contact amazon customer service. You will be fully refunded for this.
I had few issues with Marketplace sellers and contacted them first. In some cases their services for slow/non existent/etc. Amazon own Customer Service always come to rescue and issues were resolved to my full satisfaction. At one point I decided that I need to penalize the sellers for cracked cases. I notified them each time about it. And if they don't refund me or sent new case I always contact Amazon to get my $2/case back. 95% of sellers using inadequate padded envelope packaging.

Because of Amazon service I prefer to buy there that on eBay. Few times I bought CD on ebay they were advertised as new, but were cut out with drilled hole in the case.
