Are the Polyhymnia people not the same people who were on that Philips team? I am pretty certain at least some of the cast of characters remains the same!
And I do think that, by and large, they do wonderful work!

My feeling is that the improvements in terms of recording quality are very obvious with big orchestral works. But even with single intruments or small ensembles, what we do a lot better these days is not timbre quality itself that was already pretty up there in the 60s, but rather the accuracy of soundstage and spatialisation. Also the micro-dynamics are usually improved because we have more headroom.
Do you feel that too Bruce?

Yes but the lack of "congestion" in recording of larger ensembles is a huge step forward with sacd!....or am I saying the same thing you are only in different words?

I can see you're a fan of MDT (eight plugs for them on this forum in recent months) but maybe it's appropriate to remind you (and others) that this site is supported solely by sales made through the affiliated vendors (of which there's currently nine to choose from) and using the links provided. MDT was approached on a number of occasions in the past to become a supporter of this site and they declined my invitations. So it's somewhat galling to have the site's own forum used to repeatedly plug their offerings. As has been stated on a number of occasions, people here are free to buy their SA-CDs from wherever they choose ... I won't know anyway. It's also fair to say that MDT run a decent service (I've bought from them myself in the past) and I'm sure they have some loyal customers here. But repeatedly encouraging people to go elsewhere to save a few bucks just runs this site down. So if you regard SA-CD.net as a useful resource you may want to reconsider such plugs in the future.

Thank you for your response. I didn't know that there was a financial aspect to the vendors listed and the maintainence of this site, for which I do apologize. My purpose was not to plug any one vendor (MDT, or Concord Music), but simply to help site participants save money, allowing them to purchase more SACDs than they otherwise would, thereby increasing the sales of the record companies that support the format. The thought being, the more they sell, the more likely they'll continue to produce SACDs. Kind regards, and keep up the good work. Greek mythology being repleat with examples of the inadvisability of galling Zeus, the transgression won't be repeated.
