I guess the chance is remote these days, but nevertheless:

Mahler Symphony #8 / Solti with CSO (1972) / DECCA

Just repetitively compared Decca's "The Originals" release with Haitink's SACD from Pentatone, Solti really excels.

Fredrikmo, the anticipated album by Mike Oldfield is called "Music of the Spheres" and classified as a classical music, so rest quiet - no more synthesizer sound i.e. Light & Shade. You can see a little excerpt here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpwGDjDOx-I

Wow...thanks! Seems promising somehow...Will have to watch out for this.

Given the wonderful musical results of Tangerine Dream: Rubycon, which was a fairly early reissue on SACD, I'd also like their (to my mind) best album Stratosfear released, preferably as indicated above (note that the image is a fake remix picture).

When on the subject of the electronica genres, Brian Eno's Music for Airports was announced around the time when Rubycon was released, but was withdrawn, I believe. Wouldn't mind that one either. After all, it's a soundtrack for and to an entire urban generation.

My second "want" list..for Mercury Living Presence to finish releasing the Fennell/Eastman recordings (that were released on CD) to come out....the two march SACD's from Mercury were not enough!!!!

If we all start praying hard enough, perhaps the HatHut label somehow will be strengthened.

I'd definitely want this one among many others from their catalog.

(note: this is another fake remix image)

So the other name for this thread is the wishful thinking thread?

I wish Julia Fischer would return to PentaTone and that Nikolaj Znaider would join them as well - and we would get Znaider's Beethoven and Fischer's Shostakovitch. Fischer's Beethoven however, would be very very welcome - I have heard her play it 4 times and 2 of the four, in Baltimore, were "Concert of my life" experiences, while the third in Carnegie Hall was close, very close.

So why Znaider? I was given a DVD of his performance at the Proms. It was to be brief, impressive. Fischer's Shostakovitch is in my opinion a "world beater". I never heard anyone do it as well let alone better. Searching raw emotion in the first movement, incredible energy in the second movement and true pathos in the third, with a return to manic energy in the fourth.

Since we're doing wishful thinking, I'd love for Julia to stop by my house. Heck, she can even bring her violin if she really wants to.
