I hope your prejudices do not extend to ocarina. No collection is complete without the Chuckerbutty Quartet.

Damn, somehow I missed that one!

Greetings!

I have two questions, which hopefully Robert will be willing (or able) to answer:

1) I have been enormously enjoying Christian Lindberg's exploration of the dark corridors of Allan Pettersson's music and am excited that the 6th symphony will be the first *ever* recording of that magisterial composer in SA-CD. Can we hope that more hi-res recordings are to come? and is Maestro Lindberg planning a complete Pettersson cycle (what a thought!)

2) I am saddened by the near completion of Mark Wigglesworth's Shostakovich cycle. Since the 15th symphony is somewhat short, will there be companion works on the disc?

Many thanks!
David

It is not always that one can answer in the positive, but here I can:

1) Yes, absolutely. At the very least he will do all the remaining symphonies, and No. 9 is the next. Possibly this will be augmented to a complete cycle.

2) Yes, there will, but I am not at liberty yet to tell you what.

Best - Robert

Robert, can you share us any news about the predicted release date for the Oramo / Royal Stockholm Phil / Elgar symphony set?

The 2nd Symphony will be out in March 2013.
The when of the 1st isn't decided yet.

Dear Robert,

Now that Naxos and Ondine have stolen a march with their (good but not great?) Roussel cycles, is it unrealistic to hope for some SACDs of Roussel's music from BIS? If so, what about Honegger's symphonies, of which there are very few recordings?

Best wishes,

Simon

Well, they do the Roussels and others' music - we do the Allan Petterssons and Kalevi Ahos (look at the new releases on the Titles page) in addition to standard fare. Main thing is that they all get done - and hopefully on SACD.

You do not believe the Naxos/Denéve Roussel cycle to be great? It is in fact glorious, to my ears. Yes, of course, those fantastic recordings would benefit from a high res SACD presentation. But I feel quite satisfied for the time being having this cycle available.

Denève does well with the first and second symphonies, but he could conduct the third and fourth with greater lightness and panache. A more transparent recording would help, which is why I thought of BIS.
