Yesterday I bought "Haydn: Opera at Eszterháza - Huss". I like the packaging: a standard CD jewel case in a cardboard slipcase. The slipcase isn't necessary but it makes the package more attractive.
On the back of the enclosed booklet, BIS-CD-1818 is misprinted as BIS-SACD-1818. Just a little note. :-) BTW, Persson and Richter are excellent!

I have heard that at least one big company uses SACD Boxes for RBCD:s.

I know who you mean - and it always catches my eye when I see them in a shop, making me think for a split second that there is a new SACD.

While I like the Super Jewel boxes because they are sturdier than standard RBCD boxes (the trade off for this being standard RBCD boxes are much easier and cheaper to replace), if the cost of SJ boxes is so exhorbitant I do not mind BIS switching - especially if more SACDS is the result. I am always disappointed when I see a new BIS production and it is only RBCD - such as the most recent London Baroque issue.

Standard jewel box are enough for me too ;-)

I'm curious about the first symphony of Hans Rott that Mahler admire so much.

Mahler said : "It is completely impossible to estimate what music has lost in him. His genius soars to such heights even in this first symphony, written at the age of twenty. It makes him - without exaggeration - the founder of the new symphony as I understand it."

I know that this symphony has ever been recorded (Arte nova for example) but
Bissie do you know this symphony ? Is it a project of BIS ?

Thanks - Dominique

It's been part of the BIS catalog nearly twenty years:

BIS released this symphony in 1992 with Leif Segerstam conducting.

Cilea, sorry, I do not read the BIS catalog.

What I hope is of course a good SACD record.

Regarding the question whether to release SACDs in standard jewel boxes, my response is: yes, please! I much prefer them and they can be easily replaced.

One caveat though, please release the remainder of the discs of your current SACD cycles, such as Brautigam's Beethoven and Suzuki's Bach Cantatas, in the super jewel case. It would be irritating for people to have the switch from one to the other in midstream.

Of course, the Suzuki already switched in the middle in the RBCD to SACD transition, didn't it?

what would the members of this Forum say, if we were to change to standard RBCD Jewel Boxes

As almost all BIS SACDs are not hi-rez recordings, marketing them in the old standard redbook case is both appropriate and helpful to end-users ... So yes - please proceed to the old redbook packaging.

Please don't start this AGAIN.
