Schubert Symphonies 3, 4, 5 will be released this year. Same forces.

Excellent! Thanks Robert!

Dear Robert

Yesterday I read ERNEST BLOCH wrote FIVE STRING QUARTETS which seem to be extremely good, especially NUMBER ONE being an ambitious and complex piece.
I had never heard about them before. There is a famous recording by the Griller Quartet, in mono sound.

I wondered how come there are no modern recordings of this music at all. Seems to me this composer has been quite important for BIS as there are many releases of his major works on your catalogue. Alas, none of the string quartets.

Did you ever think about recording them?
Just un idea.

Greetings from Buenos Aires

Juan

I finally received my copy of the 6th yesterday. It's really superb, especially the fabulous wind playing, even better than the excellent 8/9! I'm certainly looking forward to the rest.

When should we expect Vol. 13 of Brautigam's Beethoven?

March 2014. A complete Summer's scheduled recordings went because of a shoulder injury.

Dear Robert, will there by any further volumes of Bach's secular cantatas? Thanks, Simon.

I'd like to add to that:
Is it too early to ask about any estimates on when the complete sacred cantatas box will be released? Years after the last volume or sooner perhaps?

We will record all the secular cantatas as well.

We still haven't decided on when to release a full box of the sacred cantatas, but obviously we will at some stage. It is a LOT of work, though, as many earlier texts have to be rewritten, all the texts compiled etc.

Thanks for the reply.

FWIW, I no longer buy box sets and have sold or given away most of the ones I owned: I realised that I couldn't digest the music in that form. I used to have a complete set of Haydn's keyboard sonatas played by Christine Schornsheim. The performances were very good, but the set just sat on my shelf unregarded (or whatever the aural equivalent is). Occasionally, I would get it down for another attempt, but I don't think I ever got beyond disc 3 (of 14). After five or six years, I gave it away and started acquiring Ronald Brautigam's series volume by volume, not buying the next instalment till I had imprinted the present one on my brain. This possibly sounds very foolish, since I could likewise have worked through a complete set (Schornsheim's or Brautigam's) disc by disc, and for less money, but there's some kind of psychological block to doing so. It's like being presented with a mountain of food: it kills the appetite.

I know exactly what you mean. I too have some old box sets in my shelf that I've never really gotten into, and doubt if I ever will. Same thing with single disc releases whenever I've bought too many in a short time.
For this reason, and to keep my money spending in check, I started a new system this year: only one disc of new music per week (unless a single work is extended in two discs). I have perhaps a dozen new albums (unlistened) in the shelf, and every monday I choose which disc I mostly want to listen to that week. It requires some patience, but it feels like I'm actually getting more this way, and so far it has worked well, even with box sets - but only the ones I've bought after starting this system. For the older ones I have that weird psychological block just like what you described. The wonders of the human mind...
