A reaction to flytomars's review:

I don't hear the 15-16kHz noise on my copy (the US/european single layer version you reviewed), although my hearing still goes up to 19kHz (I recently checked it with a test CD, and I hear the 19kHz multiplex tone on FM radio transmissions).

Hi Claude!
Just to make sure I dont make a complete fool of myself-
My copy is a single layer, Verve, cat# 314 589 595-2 (if that makes any sense, I copied it from the spine)
Before we proceed discussion, we are talking about the same issue, right?

Yes, that's the same as mine. "Made in the USA" (the small print on the disc).

Could it be related to the player? I have a Sony SCD-XA777ES.

Yes, "Made in the USA" on the disc.
My player is a universal one- Denon DVD-1930.
It is indeed a cheap player, concidering, BUT- I have reasons to believe that it is not the player`s fault- first of all, it only appears on this SACD.

I have raised a question about this SACD in a local audiophiles forum, at first nobody knew what I was talking about, but then someone posted a spectrum picture from an audiophile (regular CD) issue of this title, and it looks more or less the same- I have added the picture to this message.
I dont know which issue he has, I am still missing some details, but on the other hand- as you probably saw from the other links from my original review- the original CD looks like it has been notch filtered or noise removed at exactly the same frequency, which leads me to believe that there was a defect in the original masters...

I don't think I can hear test tones up to 15 kHz, but the high frequencies on this disk sound bad to me anyway. Try, for example, the first 15 seconds of track 7...it sounds like Getz is playing a kazoo. The highs sound just fine on my system with many other SACDs, especially modern ones. Do the more recent rereleases of this album have the 14.5 kHz artifact?

Yes, a few mintues into Girl from Ipanema (first track), around where Gilberto's wife comes in, there was a very high-pitched and unpleasant but at the same time hard-to-hear (i.e., not loud) noise that suddenly cuts in. I must particularly warn headphone users away from this disc. In general, I believe you should leave the master alone, but here's one instance where they really should have touched it up. This is still a very nice analogue recording with a very vivid soundstage (although on headphones the female vocals only come in on one channel, way to the side).
