Welcome to the forum, and very good to see an LS3/5A listener!

I have a PS3 which is able to decode up to the required resolution. It now also recognises WMA files. It also has a hard drive. Hmmm, that gives me an idea....

So I pose this question: if the same new recording were available in these four stereo formats, which would you choose:

RBCD ($18)
16/44.1 lossless download -- 600 kbps ($14)
24/96 lossy download -- 600 kbps ($14)
24/96 lossless download -- 2500 kbps ($25)

None.

Why?

Quality wise I would go for 24/96 lossless, but I would not pay that price ($25) for it.

BTW, 96/24 WAV files (you would have to convert them from WMA) can be easily authored for DVD-V with the program DVD Audio Creator.

Oops! Just noticed it had been mentioned before.

For those that asked: a DVD-V with a 96/24 LPCM stereo track sounds exactly the same as a DVD-Audio with a 96/24 LPCM stereo one. The problem with the latter is that you will need to have a DVD-Audio capable player. Whereas you can play the 96/24 stereo DVD-V on any DVD player.

Hope this helps.

Finally, IMHO high resolution starts at 88.2/24. 48/24 just doesn't cut it because for all practical purposes it sounds to close to the sound of a CD, plus it's the basic, generic resolution of a regular DVD-V.

As you stated $25 is a lot for a download - for me when I can get a perfectly fine Multi-channel SACD for that or much less.

The day will come when for that price you will download multi-channel high-rez PCM (24/192) and burn your blu-ray disc.

Pray Windsurfer...

I use computer as transport and find that that downloaded files can be very useful when say paired with a dac or a slim devices transporter.
