Windsurfer,

I'm happy you liked the Schubert lieder recording, and yes, the Fry Street recordings are a must have. They are an excellent string quartet, that nearly recorded without cuts, and the recording quality, as said Beagle, might be even better than my very beloved Lindsays' recording. Haven't compared (and there is no multi-channel on the latter).

Debussy, Poulenc, Saint-Saens: Violin Sonatas - Midori

Not as goldenly mellow as Julia Fischer, but, on this disc, Midori draws from a broader palette of emotions and tonal colors.

Good choice - I think the Midori discs are special.

I think had you had heard Fischer play the Debussy at Union or at Middlebury College last month you would not have said that! Of course the Poulenc is another entire dimension, but to speak of the Debussy, Fischer played with a more subtle rubato and with infinitely more tonal variety - it was amazing, like staring at the most beautiful of impressionist oil paintings only this was ever unfolding, changing as music must do. It was a most glorious performance.

Nevertheless I agree that the Midori disc is treasurable.
