Peter,

Thank you for the information on this recording. According to the Bruckner recordings reference website, www.abruckner.com, the version has been recorded only twice before - Eichhorn and Tintner. They are making it available supposedly at a special price before February 20.

I don't know the difference between this version and the more frequently recorded editions (I own the Solti-Nowak Ed., which is actually quite good IMHO), but the music is gorgeous. Only if you like Bruckner, of course.

Somewhat off topic: Hopefully, sometime in the near future there will be an SACD recording of the Ninth Symphony with the latest version of the reconstructed finale. The Harnoncourt SACD apparently does not include the coda and the reconstruction on the Wildner RBCD has been significantly updated. The web site contains a long essay on the reconstruction so that those that are interested can judge its validity for themselves. It works for me.

I just sent an email to oehms asking the question. Hopefully they will get back to me.

I have received an email from Oehms confirming that this is a stereo and multichannel recording.

Peter,

Thank you again for information concerning the conductor; she is totally unknown to me. Last night I listened again to my Solti recording, and although I still like the performance, the sound was more congested than I recalled.

Acordingly, I will probably pick up the Young recording. This great music deserves the very best in sound. I would rate it as an obvious high risk purchase, however.
