A pop music listener who Listens?...

Oh indeed I suppose.

I buy many different genres of music, but most are either of the pop or indie rock pursuasion. Ironically I suppose, even though I continue to fund the machine and I'll no doubt never stop, I am finding it harder and harder to 'listen', as you put it, considering how nastily each subsequent release I buy seems to be mastered.

Ok an attempt to respond to last three posts.
I gave up a long time ago with Grammyphone. Many many reasons from reviews to editorial content. It was aimed at a dying breed, changing courses every few months is a waste of time. Would anyone on this forum take any of their reviews about sacd serious...
As regards quailty of gear not making stero only discs worthwhile!.Either it must be pretty low level to squash all the improved dynamics and extra Frequencies but you should notice a fair bit of extra tone and detail..Ive yet to hear a system that when run in doesnt sound better.dont forget one day you may change andupgrade the system.?.
As regards live performance,and suggestions..

.I have George Harrison in Japan,Roger Walters The Wall and Bill Wymans Rhythm Kings but Allison Moorers Show stands out for me.I also find the two Train discs worth listening to as well as Cheryl Crow and Divas, All of which are disc someone else has turned their nose up.I suspect some people never go out to live concerts though I dont dislike any of the squeeky clean items that get the thumbs up..Also blues titles on jsps are excellent (those I have tried)So is Sanatana and Clapton in stereoPlenty of pop stuff around but Depeche mode i dont take as serious.Moody Blues yes..
As regards classical, there is a well trodden road which most pop converts follow probably for good reasons. The presentation of each type of music is aimed differently...Certaily surround is used differently..
If you look at the list of 100 most popular works you would probably fall asleep at first listen to most at the top.So the all action pieces like Carmina Burana /which has many of its tunes pinched for tv adverts may be an interesting start plus Stravinsky Rite of Spring .Beethovens 5th and Sibelius Finlandia/Karelia would be good though I havent found a top sacd version yet. Also lookout for "Bolero" Spanish Art Quartet.great fun...
