Oh indeed I suppose. I buy many different genres of music, but most are either of the pop or indie rock pursuasion. Ironically I suppose, even though I continue to fund the machine and I'll no doubt never stop, I am finding it harder and harder to 'listen', as you put it, considering how nastily each subsequent release I buy seems to be mastered. ... more | |

Granted, I have very modest equipment... a cheap panasonic HT receiver that came with free speakers (the sub of which isn't even active, but passive), and even crappier cables. I ascertained in an post earlier today that I just took delivery of a universal player, and so am ready to dip my toe in the waters of hi-res audio. I note that many releases on SACD are in multichannel, as well as stereo. Can someone with experience explain the concept of surround/ multichannel audio to me... Apologies, but I am still confused! Maybe if I try explaining further... I have the regular stereo output of the player, hooked up to the CD input of the amp. If I choose to play the hi-res stereo mix of an SACD, with CD selected on my amp, will I hear anything? What will I hear? ... more |
