I'm not going to have time for a while to write an in-depth review, but this is a terrific disc; definitely the best recording yet from Philly/Eschenbach/Ondine: fresh interpretation, excellent playing, and great sound (superb hammer blows, especially the second).

I'm sure most of you all don't need another Mahler 6, but if you were debating buying this recording, don't hesitate.

Hmm - I had decided to not buy it! But now I think I will. (it's easy to twist my arm about some things!) How did this music get to be the great SACD demo disc? - I mean everybody and their brother seems to be compelled to record it. I was happy with my MTT disc, then happier with my RCO Live disc.....

this is definitely the best recording ever of the 6th mahler-symphony. played like this, this music puts me in trance.
first the interpretation: one cannot describe it, its just wonderful. so should be classical music: after hearing it, you stand without finding words.
second the sound: really clear and almost without any noise from the live recording (i have heard just some with my earphones). thats the best sound of the ondine philadelphia cooperation, you can hear every instrument, its recorded very transparently.
one of my best discs!

The transparency really is one of the highlights (Verizon Hall's acoustics owe a lot to this). The sound is layered with all sorts of great moments where instruments ranging from the trombone to harp and tam-tam poke their head through the texture.

Yes, after a long pause (long enough that you can stop the disc if you wish not to hear it).

Not to sound like a cheerleader, but their review is pretty much dead-on. Having attended 2 out of the 3 concerts that this recording was cured from, I'm just surprised -- and happy -- how faithful the recording is to what I heard and remembered.

on classicstodayfrance.com huss gave the sacd 7/7. he seems to be a bit crazy, all the good sacds like this one or the pentatone sacds he rates with 7 points for the sonics. either he has a bad soundstation or something is wrong with his ears. but only with his ears, he also has problems with his musical taste, i mean, 7 points for this great interpretation?! just as 8 points for the interpretation of the mendelssohn piano trios by fischer, schott, gilad (the best i have heard ever). i cannot understand this guy!

i wonder is anyone in a position to compare the eschenbach mahler 6 with the zander/telarc version which i currently own?
