Tales from the Earthsea is the latest film to come out of the Ghibli studios. It was directed by Hayao Miyazaki´s son Goro Miyazaki.

Gedo Senki is not the name of the composer but the film title in Japanese with our letters, it roughly translates as Ged´s war.

The music was written by Tamiya Terashima.

This comment by mwagner1962 in his review made me wonder,
"The music is very interesting and enjoyable....enough so that I would like to see the movie, even if it is in Japanese."

What´s wrong with Japanese? I not only warmly recommend all the Ghibli films but I also recommend everyone to see them in Japanese. So much gets lost in translation. Read the text and enjoy the sounds.

Right on!

I enjoy watching the Miyazaki movies very much and never never watch them in English because all the inflection and nuance is totally lost that way. Anyone who doesn't believe this should watch "Spirited Away" first in Japanese then in English and tell me if Edvin is not right!

Windsurfer, you mention Spirited Away and I can honestly say that I think that it is one of the best films ever made. I have two favorite film directors whose films I can watch very often without ever growing tired of them. Both are Japanese and apart from Miyazaki I mean Takeshi Kitano - and both have the excellent taste to employ the greatest master of film music ever: Joe Hisaishi. Hisaishi is a genius and easily outshines all rivals both past and present.

Tonight, when it´s cooler, I will probably watch Kikujiro or Howl´s Moving Castle.

Edvin....

I did not mean to imply that there is anything wrong with Japanese!! I have never seen any Japanese movies with the exception of all the old Godzilla movies, though I am not sure that counts as great cinema...

If the Ghibli Studios Earthsea film is available here in the US, then I would like to see it....if it is, then please let me know, okay??

THANKS!!!

Personally, I would start with Miyazaki's earlier stuff like Nausicca, Raputa, Kiki's Delivery Service, or my favorite My Neighbor Totorro. All great stuff.

Hello, I am back ;-)

Just wanted to know what kind of music I have to expect on this SACD. It looks very interesting. Is it a mixture of traditional and modern Japanese sounds?

And... do you all speak Japanese, or do you read the English subtitles with it?

UK TV viewers could see many of these this week on FilmFour in the late afternoon. Nausicca was on yesterday. Dubbed in English.

They are all great and Totoro is probably the most charming film ever made. Japanese language is essential, with English subtitles.
