I didnt care for this when it first came out, and certainly not looking for it now on SACD. If they have to bring this stuff up, why can't they do the Star Tracks works...i thought those were infinetly better, and why cant we get a good Sorcerer's Apprentice on SACD? Kunzel has a million different pops CDs out and not one recording of this on SACD.

Come on Telarc, if your gonna do pops, DO pops!

His Gershwin is among the best, so if there is anything that should be reissued/rerecorded, that should be it.

Crap, guys. Its a fun disc that sold zillions so it might even make a few SACD converts out of those that loved it first time around and want to hear it again in surround.

I want Mackerras' Nutcracker out. Maybe with this one, they'll do the Nutcracker next.

Teresa recently reviewed this SACD on Positive Feedback very positively (surprised, right?): http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue49/sacd.htm The recording was made in "low rez" 16/44 pcm (yep, standard RBCD specs) yet, somewhow, it has been magically transformed to something better in this SACD remastering. She likes it, she likes it! How is this possible??!! Numbers are numbers after all. Yes? No? Silk purse from a sow's ear? How can this be? Could it be that well recorded RBCD is simply well recorded regardless of the "numbers". Nah, that couldn't be right because the "numbers" say so. Discuss amongst yourselves...

While this recording certainly has its charms, especially on a good multi~channel system, I was hoping that Arthur Fiedler's album "Pops Round-up" would've been among the Living Stereo releases on SACD....Perhaps Analogue Productions will see fit to release this album utilizing the Grimm audio converter sometime in the not too distant future (along with Fiedler's album "Star Dust.") Yes, I am a romantic, at heart.

All that Teresa has to now is to listen to MCH SACD instead of old stereo only

When Teresa sprouts four ears then maybe she'll take the plunge. I, personally, can NOT live without surround and have even used the "Super" DSP mode on my Meridian 861 to extract "exaggerated but rather precise" surround from both my stereo SACDs and RBCDs. It makes the listening experience much, much, much more involving.....but that's me. I WANT IT ALL!

Mark I did say "This SACD sounds excellent, no not as good as Telarc's DSD recorded SACDs or even their historic Soundstream 50kHz SACDs but considerably better than any 16 Bit 44.1kHz recording I've ever heard." and wondered if the restoration process which I described would work for other low resolution 44.1kHz recordings?

This is not the first time I have praised low resolution 44.1kHz Telarc recordings, from an article last year:
"Telarc's engineering makes such a large contribution to the overall sound of their recordings, that I would much rather listen to a Telarc MP3 than most other companies SACDs. However I would rather have all of Telarc's recordings on SACD as that is the optimal way to enjoy the extremely high resolution they achieve."

IMHO losing Telarc is the worst thing that has ever happened to SACD.

I'll go one step further, Teresa: Losing the Concord Music Group, especially with it's surprising roster of new stars, is the real tragedy. I equally loved their Concord m/c music releases and even some of the Prestige/Riverside stereo SACDs and now that they are "in charge" of remastering the Frank Sinatra Reprise recordings, all we can hope for is downloaded "Chairman Of The Board," at present in MP3 rez. I did pose a question to Michael Bishop on another post as to whether he would re~master onto SACD any Telarc or Concord Music Group titles, but his "silence" kind of answered my question.......I'm sure his exit from the CMG wasn't exactly amicable, so why would he? And CMG is also sitting on some stunning Pablo recordings which in their day were well~recorded and demand hi~rez transfers........
