Just arrived for me today and listening now with damaged Rush ears but I like it. My number is 0525. Will do a review later this weekend, My first ownership of this disc. My only ownership was the smoker you drink the player you get, so all this is new except for the radio hit, Turn To Stone..
My initial response is I like it.
Little muddy but good midrange and bass, but who cares, the music is actually very cool. And what do I know?
County Fair, awesome.

Markie, try playing it in DIRECT mode if your McIntosh has that setting.......in stereo only with no fake surrounds.

Stereo SACDs almost always sound better.......in DIRECT mode, at least on my system.

I have the Smoker you Drink as an AF Gold HDCD RBCD and LOVE it. Probably OOP and pricey,

Fake surround? Never.
I never listen to anything in faux surround.
I either listen, stereo, mono, or multichannel only how it comes out of the disc.

I also tend to listen in DIRECT mode, but I at least try out a lot of 2-ch discs in DPLII. Many albums or individual songs sound very good.

But that is the thing they intend to do with Voyage of the Acolyte: fake 5.1 surround from just two channel master tape. I understand that Davil's Triangle had been manipulated that way in order to compensate the surround outfit of the whole album but treating that way the whole album it just make no sense.

The same is for artificially blow up the resolution..... where there are no data you cannot get the better result just with interpolation of the neighbouring bits.

I love surround recordings that have been inteded from the start to be like that. I wonder why recording artists can admit such maipulation done by other people that have not been involved in original recording.

There are plenty software solutions available and capable of such manipulation in practically every home computer now so I would prefer to let this thing to each and every user to decide.

I read somewhere this disk says Multichannel on it and has the jewel box spine color black like on the multichannel disks. Even though it's stereo.

Hi Frank, no where on the disc or packaging does it say multichannel. Also for the heck of it I did drop it in the SACD player in multi mode and just came out stereo. 100% guaranteed stereo only.

You are correct though it is the first AF disc in my stereo collection that has the black spine, a printing era I am sure.

Gold cover with black jewel case spine.

The mch's are silver covers with black jewel case spine.

Thanks for bringing this up as I did notice it after doing my review when I was putting away the disc and I just said the heck with it, maybe I will edit my review if there is still time.
