Discussion: Mozart: Opera Arias & Overtures - Watts, Baldini

Post by Lute June 6, 2015 (1 of 1)
A lovely recording of these famous overtures and arias of Mozart's. They are spiritedly performed by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and beautifully sung by Elizabeth Watts. While not strictly a Historically Informed Performance (HIP), many such techniques are skillfully utilized. Miking is slightly close and robust, but the balance between the orchestra and soprano voice is natural. As with most of these compilation recital discs, the addition of a tenor would have given more variety to this program but it's not a major issue. This has been chosen Album of the Week by Classic fM.

Although not directly related to this SACD, here's an interesting documentary about Elizabeth Watts performing Zerlina from Don Giovanni...https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IpGB8mwgTu0
