Thread: Transfering SACD and BR audio to AK240?

I am considering picking up an AK240 for a bunch of planned trips.

Is there any way to easily transfer my collection of SACD's and BR discs to that portable player, preserving the audio quality? I have quite a bit of money invested already, and don't want to have to re-purchase that music through an online DSM downloading service.

Thanks!

Yes there are indeed ways to rip the hi-res content from your Blu-ray, SACD and even DVD-A discs.

Blu-ray = Make MKV
DVD-A = DVD-Audio Extractor
SACD = PS3 (1st gen running firmware 3.55 or less)

MakeMKV will decrypt the contents of your blu-rays discs and produce several files; a few small menu files and usually one large file of the content you want. This larger file often contains several audio options, 5.1 DTS, 5.1 PCM, stereo PCM and as you probably only want the hi-res stereo track, you'll probably need to use DVD-A Extractor to extract that particular file from the one generated by MakeMKV. It sounds a bit complicated, but it's not. It's simply a case of using MakeMKV to decrypt the blu-ray disc and using DVD-A Extractor to get the particular audio option you want.

MakeMKV is currently a beta programme and as such, is free, although I imagine whether the programme developer's are ready to go, it will become fully purchasable (it can be purchased just now, for the time being, purchase is optional).

If you can track down a suitable PS3, you can rip your SACDs to an ISO image and if the A&K doesn't support ISO images, use software such as Sonore Converter to convert the ISO to DSF or DFF.

This is just a brief summary to say what you'd like to do is possible (it's how I do it) and if you need any help, feel to send me an email (via my Profile page).

Oddly enough, my son had an original PS3, but it died a few months ago.

Without the PS3 hardware, am I out of luck on converting the SACD discs? 95% of my collection is SACD, with just a handful of Blu Rays.

Someone could make a cottage industry out of doing this for folks...

I'm sure this thread will be closed and deleted any time now. There are various discussions on pink fish media and computer audiophile about this, which is where I'd head if you want to know more.

yeah as lenny says, the info can be found online @ computer audiophile. But if you need a link to this project, drop me an email.
