I just came across this one today. Thank goodness for music stores!

The Storioni Trio gives superb performances of these marvelous piano trios. I am familiar with Clara Schumann's piano trio. It's wonderful that she was able to compose this masterpiece while pregnant with her fourth child. The Storioni Trio are completely in touch with her beautiful sound world...just try their delicate playing in the charming Scherzo and the gorgeous Andante. The other works by Clarke and Viëtor also show an exceptional mastery of the art of composition. All 3 instruments are handled equally to form a tight, cohesive group. Clarke and Viëtor's works show the influence of early 20th century music by Debussy, Ravel, and Bartok.

The skill & artistry of these works make one wonder about what other treasures would be ours to enjoy had circumstances been more favorable for these composers.

ArsProduktion's recording is excellent in both multichannel and stereo. I found this SACD needs to played at a higher volume setting, though.

There is also an in-depth review on Fanfare's website.

This makes the third recording now of Clarke's trio, the other two on Chandos and Centaur (RBCDs). It's an excellent work and strongly recommended to any lover of Shostakovich's chamber music.
