Discussion: Mozart: Violin Concertos 3 & 5, Sinfonia Concertante - Grumiaux, Pelliccia, Davis

To put my review into perspective, half a dozen of those recordings of the Sinfonia Concertante I'd rather listen to than the one here with Pelliccia:

• Mozart/Oistrakh & Oistrakh; Kondrashin, MPO: Sinfonia Concertante K.364 (1963) – Decca/FIM XRCD
• Mozart/Oistrakh & Oistrakh, BPO: Sinfonia Concertante K.364 (1972) – EMI
• Mozart/Brandis, Cappone; Böhm, BPO: Sinfonia Concertante K.364 (1966) – DG Originals
• Mozart/Heifetz, Primrose; I. Solomon: Sinfonia Concertante K.364 (1956) – RCA LSC
• Mozart/Grumiaux, Primrose; Ackermann: Sinfonia Concertante K.364 (1955) – Archipel
• Mozart/Druian, Skernick; Szell, CO: Sinfonia Concertante K.364 (1963) – Epic/Sony

The audiophile pick here, and one that I'd love to see in SHM-SACD form, would be the Decca with the legendary Oistrakh father (on viola!) and son team. When it comes to hearing Grumiaux with a partner of equal stature (it's usually the viola part that makes or breaks the Sinfonia Concertante), despite the decidedly non-audiophile sound quality, the live performance with Primrose is worth hearing.

Greetings from Switzerland, David.
