Just ordered Ralph.

I think you'll thoroughly enjoy it, Mark.

Will also consider the Bill Withers Disc.......Always loved his voice and style. I have a Columbia Records Dualdisc (one side is a RBCD/other side a DVD~V) 5.1 Dolby Digital of Wither's "Just As I Am." Still available from Amazon....Just type in Bill Withers dualdisc!

Just received the Tears For Fears' SONGS FROM THE BIG CHAIR Box set. VERY impressive. Am currently playing the 5.1 DVD~A Steve Wilson remix.......blows away the SHM~SACD stereo version. I've actually paid more for 1 OOP SACD and a single DTS 5.1 RBCD than I paid for this entire and very impressive 6~disc set.

Also totally agree with your very positive review of the Allman Brother's Eat A Peach: a stunning 5.1 SACD disc!

...buy the 5.1 BS&T Child Is The Father To The Man...and play it LOUDLY. Stupendous album and I've awarded it my personal Multichannel Rock Disc of the Year.... A Musical Orgasm.

Probably one of the most immersive discs you'll ever hear.

I had my hand on a copy yesterday. :-0 But my other hand was full of other sweet deals on SACDs, so I put it back and left it for another day.

Never fear! I'll get it next time.

With Thanksgiving coming up, let me say that along with the usual things (health, family, friends...) I am rejoicing at the auspicious start to AF's Multichannel releases.

Between this year and next year it does seem like an "endless river" of 5.1 product.

I just hope you enjoy the BS&T disc as much as I do. Am really looking forward to their second album which will be out probably early next year along with the Best Of The Guess Who Quad SACD.

My only wish: that in my lifetime, I will get to experience an SHM~SACD in multi channel. The falling yen has certainly made them attractive to US buyers but how is that affecting your purchasing power of US Import titles, Brett?

I also am relishing this seemingly endless river of 5.1 releases. I just wish the same would apply to Pink Floyd's earlier releases... instead of the endless river of useless merchandise. I know... patience... patience... :) I am just astonshed to read the comments of Floyd fanatics expressing delight with all that bizarre merchandise... while completely ignoring the fact that the full potential of Pink Floyd's music has yet to be realized, namely the remastering of ALL their albums into 4.0 or better yet 5.1.

+1 on SHM-SACD in multichannel.

About the exchange rate not being in our favor over here, I feel it most acutely with AP's releases. Most are $45... some well over $50. Ouch! But I found Elvis's 24 Karat Hits for $38. Not a great price, but hey...it's the King, right!? And...I know Japanese releases have been as high or higher in other countries, so I am not complaining. AF's SACDs are going for between $25-35. B,S & T and Super Sessions SACDs are around $30 here. That's cheaper than the Steely Dan SHM-SACDs I got a little while ago. I do find some used SHM-SACDs at a more reasonable price, but Esoteric's SACDs just go up and up. They seem to have a cult following over here. Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake is going for $200 used!! Personally, I don't get it. I buy the titles that interest me, but that's about it.

Speaking of Tchaikovsky, I just went to see a live performance of The Sleeping Beauty. It was magical. Thinking about going to see Prokofiev's Cinderella next month.

I was just wondering if you had any information on some of their 60s and 70s material being released in Multichannel surround sound. A bunch of us here have been waiting and waiting for The Wall, Animals, Meddle... Gilmour's solo album... Anything in 5.1.

And... How do most Floyd fans listen to Floyd's music? As you know, the band members have long been advocates of surround sound. Is listening to their music in surround sound important to Floyd fans???

As to the first question, there are projects in the queue but I honestly don't know what will come first in regards to future archival 5.1 releases. One could assume - based on previous remarks - the next one will be The Wall, but due to the technical difficulties with the multitracks that could mean something else (like Animals, for example) could get moved up instead. I don't know if any of the material pre-Dark Side is even being considered. I'm not privy to the actual scheduling of releases.

I would say even as there are a number of multichannel/hi-rez enthusiasts in PF fandom, there are just as many people who aren't fussed about it. But I do believe it IS very important to have the opportunity to hear PF in 5.1 because they did create music which was meant to be three-dimensional, and it became a philosophy which was even more obvious in the later years.

Never really cared for Animals but would definitely pre-order Meddle, and the Wall.

I definitely prefer the hi-rez surround treatment.

Nice to hear from you again, Julie.

Well, I am sure glad to hear the 5.1 mixes of not only The Wall but also of Animals are in progress. I am big fan of both albums. I understand there is some difficulty with The Wall's multitracks, so we are waiting patiently. In the meantime, it would be FANTASTIC if they were to release Animals in 5.1. I, for one, am very excited at the prospect of being blown away by Animals in 5.1.

As for pre-Dark Side material being given the 5.1 treatment, WE ARE ALL FOR IT! :)

There are several impressive 5.1 remixes of music from the 1960s and early 70s. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds, Beatles - LOVE, and Marvin Gay spring to mind. So, it is possible. I know the purists would have a fit, but who cares. If one listened to the naysayers, we wouldn't have ANY recordings. Let's hope that Meddle will be being given serious consideration soon.

Since three dimensional surround sound is an important part of PF music, it would make sense to at least look at the possibility of remixing all of their earlier work in surround. I know most Mch listeners understand the difficulties and limitations that recording engineers face when trying to put together a new 5.1 mix. And therefore, we are very forgiving about some parts of the music being tweaked or recreated for the good of the whole mix. In other words, something even slightly imperfect is better than nothing, right! For example, Richard Wright had to re-record a piano part for the 5.1 mix of WYWH. As 6 years has already passed since Richard left us, I would say there is a sense of urgency to get as much done as possible while we still have the invaluable input of the remaining members.

And finally, it's great to hear that many PF fans are Mch/Hirez enthusiasts. I hope all PF fans will be able to experience and savor all the delights of Pink Floyd's music in 5.1 in the years to come.

I finally got this one on Bluray. I know the reviews are rather mixed. Some love it. Others... meh! Well, I have to say I am in the LOVE camp on this one.
Beautiful, ambient soundscapes. I am overjoyed that they decided to release this one.

What a gorgeous sunset!

I'm with you here! The only thing that spoils it is that awful Hawking soundbite!

EDIT: ...if only they would consider releasing Atom Heart Mother and Meddle on SACD, but this is probably too fanciful.

Over the years, people close to Hawking have asked Steven about getting a new, more natural sounding voice...rather than that 80s (American?) male voice. But... He won't give it up. It's become a part of his identity now...although recently it's been updated: http://tspr.org/post/stephen-hawking-gets-voice-tech-upgrade

Endless River is a beautiful collection of instrumental music. And...as much as I like Roger Waters, I can't say that I miss him on this album. David, Richard and Nick found a wonderfully organic flow. Of course Gilmour's guitar shines brightly, but I think Richard's keyboard playing impressed me the most. He really holds everything together. I can understand why they chose this recording to remember him. Just stunning!

Rumors has it that Meddle is in the works. But if it ever does make it to a disk format, Bluray will most likely be the preferred choice.

And... Atom Heart Mother... PLEASE!!! Is there anybody out there?
