Donald Fagen´s latest album, Morph the Cat, comes in a special edition containing a DVD-Audio in high rez. Dolby and DTS. 96kHz/24, 5.1 as well as stereo. It´s a marvellous album. Fagen actually tours in 5.1 now.
This site is for SACD, I know, so spare me the grumpy comments.

I am a big SD/Donald Fagen fan; I looked immediately for an SACD when I heard he had a new disc out and was bummed to find only DVD-A since I do not have a player. I wound up ordering the RBCD instead. Now that Gaucho looks to be discontinued I doubt the rest of the SD catalogue will be offered in SACD either.

Avaivable on vinyl too. Mastered by Steve Hoffman. Donald was very pleased with the result and approved the first test pressing.

Sounds like a follow up to Nightfly. Surround mix is quite nice even if it is DVD-A. At least it is surround

I'm a 2ch man myself so I'll never hear the 5.1 mix but the stereo mix is pretty good and definitely better than the standard RB. There's just a little more audio level processing going on than I would like and that's unlike Fagen. On the plus though it's the best album you'll hear this year. It's a musical masterpiece.

I read in the latest issue of HiFi Plus magazine that a studio in Holland are working on some SACD masters for Donald Fagen. I hope that means that there will be a new release.

thanks for the info edvin, sounds like a necessary purchase.

it DOES however re-activate my melancholy concerning the continuing non-availability of steely dan albums on multichannel.

will they really NEVER be released in MC format?!

it's almost too depressing to contemplate, so i'll try not to contemplate it....

He might mean compression? Not the data rate, but the dynamics of individual elements or the whole mix itself.
