How does MFSL package a 2-disk set in that cardboard booklet-less packaging they use now? I've never seen one. I think this is the first 2-disk SACD they've done. And was the Sony version missing the multi-channel also?

this is a non-issue. I've several MFSL cardboards WITH booklet, i.e. double sleeve, so that the second disc fits in the sleeve where normally the booklet would be.
As to multi-channel, no, the Sony is stereo-only too. As it should be.

Yay, this morning I received my copy in the post. Shall be comparing this one to this one Miles Davis: Bitches Brew and to the 1987 original CBS redbook ("remastered from the original analogue tapes") in the coming weeks.
btw, the two discs have been inserted into one sleeve, with the booklet in the other!

If one owns the JSACD version, is the MoFi remaster an essential purchase?
As an aside, Wikipedia states that Bitches Brew was also released in a Quadraphonic SQ version.
Wonder if we'll ever see that release....that's if SONY ever gets around to their highly anticipated BD~A launch.
As mentioned in a previous post, Monster Music's 5.1 DTS remaster of Sketches of Spain from a three channel master is somewhat revelatory and immersive. IMHO, BB would sound equally revelatory in QUAD, as well!

Btw, how do you know that the HD tracks version is the analogue mix and not just the digital Sony Legacy remaster? (As it appears, when one looks for Bitches Brew at HD tracks now, it's not currently available due to region restrictions (?)

Yet another 2-ch stereo only version. It's a shame MoFi hasn't included the Quad mix.

Yes. The original Teo Mecero mix sounds darker, more organic, while the Mark Wilder's digital remake of the mix sounds more modern and analytical (more details can be heard). I like both for their different qualities, but I prefer the original mix.
But I'm not certain yet if the MFSL SACD sounds better than the HDtracks download. I did an A/B comparision, and on some tracks I preferred the SACD, on others the download. And there is this sonic flaw (static) at the end of track 1 (discussed in the Steve Hoffman forum thread)

I hear ya... just wish I could hear THEM in Quad. ;-)
Why do I get the feeling that Jazz/Pop audiophiles are some of the most old-fashioned & conservative minded people when it comes to recording? It's quite ironic when you think about the music being so free and improvisational and fusion-oriented. And... on the other hand, you have the so-called 'conservative, stuffy' world of classical music so open to new and inventive ways of recording.
Ah! The human heart...
