For those interested in DVD-As, you might be interested to know that there are two DVD-A/CD albums available with music by Robert Reed. I only became aware of these through another internet forum about a week ago, and they are easily overlooked.

I have to admit that I'd never heard of Robert Reed until now, but looking at the description of the music, it all sounds interesting to me. So much so, that I placed my first order a week ago for the album "Sanctuary", which arrived yesterday. I am also waiting for the album "Beneath the Waves" to arrive.

Looking at any of the online information of these DVD-A/CD albums, I was unable to see any reference to the fact that the DVD might actually be a DVD-A. In fact, even my "Sanctuary" album that arrived with me yesterday, no mention is made on disc or packaging of DVD Audio, MLP or Advanced Resolution.

I haven't got around to listening to the music though, so can't report on that.

Thanks for the tip! I believe the DVD-A has both a 2ch 24/96 Stereo & 5.1 Surround Mix. Definitely looking forward to listening to it in 5.1.

Here's a video clip:

Btw, Dream Theater's DVD-A is a similar CD/DVD-A package and... rocks in surround!!

Just spun the DVD~A (verified) Mike Oldfield tribute Sanctuary by Robert Reed: Highest Recommendation. Created with surround in mind, Reed's spot on phasmagoria of sound will delight even classical purists and the recording is exemplary (on my Meridian 800).

Tom Petty's BD~A of Hypnotic Eye is a delight from start to finish. A little bass shy, it flows from track to track with pleasant hooks, some tasty guitar solos and a hint of surround (but done VERY tastefully).

Better yet (of course) is the Allman's 3 BD~A set of the complete 1971 Fillmore East Concerts LIVE from the City that never sleeps (nothing that Ambien can't cure). Jazzy and bluesy as ever with a great presence (audience and ambience in rear channels....again, tasteful and never intrusive), a MUST buy for purists and fans alike.

Next week: Al Kooper's vaunted 5.1 mix of Super Sessions with Mike Bloomfield and Stephen Stills and the 5.1 SACD of Breezing.

Thanks rammie,

That's great to hear regarding the "Sanctuary" album - your "description" sounds interesting. A pity that the packaging is so poor on this album, but I'll re-package in a SJB.

My "Beneath the Waves" DVD-A should also be interesting when I manage to get around to listening to it.

You'll cherish "Beneath The Waves." A very melodic moody affair with enveloping surrround.

At the very least, we're finally realizing some current fare in 5.1.

Upcoming: Maroon 5:" V" in BD~A stereo only (hi res, of course) but I'll just employ my DSP mode and enjoy it nonetheless.

Super Session and Breezing 5.1 delayed until September 2!

I'm really interested to get the DVD-A of Beneath the waves. Where did you purchase it? I can not find it.

Thx!

Is this perhaps a DVD-A of his work during the Brady Bunch era or is it his one of his later efforts during the Brady Bunch Variety Hour (considered a low point) period of his career?

Unfortunately, Kompendium's Beneath The Waves CD/DVD~A was probably only pressed in a very limited quantity as I see AmazonUS (where I originally purchased it for approximately $35) is now listing it for $99.

It's a worthwhile album to seek out, RickM, but I'd check out ebay for a better price.

feinstei, you're obviously confusing actor Robert Reed with musician Robert Reed leader of the Welsh progressive rock band Magenta.
